Inter Milan are reportedly chasing a swap deal with Manchester United in order to finally get their hands on Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian has publicly stated a desire to play in Italy before his career is over and the Serie A giants are understood to be keen.
Antonio Conte previously wanted the prolific striker when he was at Chelsea but he lost out to then Jose Mourinho’s United.
Lukaku is believed to be unhappy with playing second fiddle to Marcus Rashford so it makes sense he would seek out a more important role elsewhere.
However, it appears as though any deal for the former Everton man will be incredibly complicated given the Italian’s lack of finances.
According to the Express, Inter will offer Mauro Icardi as part of the Romelu transfer despite knowing the Red Devils prefer a £50m downpayment and cash only deal.
It seems Conte’s side are insistent on their offer but it’s unlikely executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will back down.
The Old Trafford chief will face heavy criticism if he sells Lukaku for anything less than he spent on bringing the player in and so he can’t risk incurring the wrath of the fans more than he already has.
