Manchester United star Chris Smalling is reportedly set for a loan move to Roma as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to clear out his squad.
The centre-back position is actually one of the few positions in the squad that is overstocked and so it makes sense to move on anyone who doesn’t have a role to play.
Solskjaer’s options are Smalling, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo, Axel Tuanzebe, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.
Even for a team playing with a back five, there’s too many centre-backs to choose from and so the former Fulham man has been chosen to move on.
Solskjaer will probably move on another one or two before the deadline is complete and fans are certain to be pleased with his decision making.
According to Sky Sports, Smalling is edging towards a £2.7m loan move to Roma with a medical set to happen today evening after long negotiations.
It’s believed the Red Devils initially wanted €20m included in a loan deal that included an option to buy of sorts but they settled for the above to have the transfer happen.
Solskjaer’s side will almost always buy expensive and sell cheap simply because of the reputation of the club as well as their incredible financial strength.
