Manchester United star Matteo Darmian is reportedly close to a transfer to Italy after months on end as an unused squad member.
The experienced Italian was signed during Louis van Gaal‘s era but struggled to make an impact after initially impressing for a few weeks.
Darmian was seen as a useful, versatile defender capable of reading the game and playing in a ‘no-nensense’ fashion.
The former Torino man has been out of United’s starting XI picture for quite some time that it’s bizarre to think he renewed his contract despite a lack of minutes.
The Red Devils were obviously trying to protect their assets but it’s clear to see that ended up being poor business.
According to Manchester Evening News, Darmian is close to a transfer to an unnamed Italian club before the upcoming summer deadline on Monday.
Inter Milan, Napoli and Juventus were all interested in the solid full-back last summer but it remains to be seen whether that’ll happen or not this time around.
His wages wasn’t a problem last year either and instead it was actually down to Manchester United’s asking price being to high for them.
That’s unlikely to be the case again but that all depends on whether the aforementioned clubs are still interested or not.
