Man United fans will be furious if this 21yo star leaves this summer

Manchester United fans have reacted angrily to the news of Newcastle’s reported interest in a loan move for Axel Tuanzebe.

The sensational youngster has impressed both during his temporary spell with Aston Villa last season as well as during the club’s pre-season so far.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also clearly a fan of Tuanzebe, complimenting him publicly with supporters agreeing with the well deserved praise.

There’s a general feeling the English prospect is ready for more first-team football despite the centre-back positions being overstocked at the moment.

Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo and Victor Lindelof are all the current options with the likes of Harry Maguire and Samuel Umtiti also linked with a move of late.

The Daily Mail tweet suggests United’s move for Maguire could see Newcastle take advantage of the overstocked options by loaning Axel.

It will be interesting to see whether such a move appeals to Solskjaer but fans are clearly sick of sending him on loan and want to see him feature ahead of the likes of Smalling, Jones and Rojo.

Tuanzebe himself has spoken of his belief that he feels he’s ready for first-team football this season so it’s unlikely he’ll be happy to go on another loan spell.

Man United give up on Maguire pursuit, club targeting 25yo superstar instead

Manchester United have reportedly given up on their pursuit of Harry Maguire after becoming frustrated with Leicester City and so have turned their attentions to Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti.

The talented Englishman has been Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s main target for the whole summer and it appears he won’t be able to secure the transfer.

The Foxes have stuck to their guns in terms of negotiations and have refused to settle for less than their asking price.

United have also refused to pay more than what they value Maguire at and so both clubs have been at a standstill for a while.

Umtiti has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford and that old fire has now been reignited.

According to Sky Sports, the Red Devils’ have tried to see whether a deal for the World Cup winner is possible as they attempt to identify other targets, seemingly moving on from interest in Harry.

It seems a strange time to now move on to other targets with such little time left in the summer transfer window.

The issue is how the club only now seem to be sounding out other candidates when they should’ve already known who their back up options were.

Journalist confirms Dybala's stance on joining Man United

Manchester United target and Juventus star Paulo Dybala will reportedly make a decision this Thursday on his future.

The sensational Argentine has suddenly seen himself linked with a transfer to Old Trafford after reports emerged over a potential swap deal.

The Italian giants are believed to be keen on Romelu Lukaku and have jumped ahead of Inter Milan in the race for his signature.

Dybala would definitely add some star quality to United’s starting XI and would easily be their marquee signing of the summer.

Losing Lukaku would also not be such a huge deal should the versatile attacker come in as his replacement.

According to The Guardian, Paulo will hold talks with Maurizio Sarri after training on Thursday before deciding whether to move to the Red Devils or not.

It’s understood should the Italian boss reveal the talented 25 year old is not in his plans for Juventus then that would push through the move.

However, Dybala will likely want a huge salary to go with having to miss out on Champions League football and for becoming one of Manchester United’s main men.

Fans are already getting excited over the potential partnership between Paul Pogba and their potential new star given their solid relationship during their time together at Juventus.

Gallery: International forward to prove himself? We predict how Chelsea could line up against RB Salzburg

After back to back wins against Reading and Barcelona, Chelsea head to Austria not just in search of another win but also a marked improvement upon their defensive efforts, having shipped five goals in their last three pre-season outings.

There is, of course, an obvious caveat to this problem, first-choice keeper’ Kepa Arrizabalaga has only played 45 minutes since his return to the first-team squad and thus the defence has not been at full strength.

However, experienced heads such as David Luiz, Emerson and Cesar Azpilicueta are well acclimatised to the rigour of pre-season football there are obvious issues, especially from set-pieces that must be resolved quickly.

The penultimate game of our pre-season tour sees us take on Austrian Bundesliga champions RB Salzburg, who are gearing up for what’s expected to be yet another year of domestic dominance – they have won seven of the last eight league titles on offer.

The one player most at risk of inflicting more damage upon Chelsea’s vulnerable defence is diminutive Japanese forward Takumi Minamino, whose versatility and ability to drop in and out of space should cause problems as the Blues have shown themselves to be particularly poor at tracking their markers on the edge of the box.

N’Golo Kante has joined up with the squad after his injury worries, but it is yet to be seen whether Lampard will risk him in order to field a team more in tune with the one that will take on Manchester United in a couple of weeks.

Here is how we predict Chelsea to line up…

Club legend phones Dybala, tells him to join Manchester United: report

Patrice Evra has spoken to Paulo Dybala on the phone and encouraged the Argentine to join Manchester United, according to reports.

As confirmed by journalist Fabrizio Romano, Man United and Juventus held a meeting yesterday and reached an agreement in principle for a deal involving Dybala and Romelu Lukaku.

The key lies with Dybala, who wants to remain in Turin but will leave if it becomes clear that he does not align with the tactical vision of new manager Maurizio Sarri.

According to the Daily Mail‘s Nathan Salt, Evra, who played alongside Dybala for two seasons at Juve, phoned the 25-year-old recently and encouraged his former teammate to consider the deal.

It could be suggested that the mere fact of Dybala supposedly needing to be convinced to join United, that his preferred option is to remain in Turin, means that the deal should not go through at all. Comparisons with Angel Di Maria and Alexis Sanchez, two other South Americans who never really had their hearts in joining United, are impossible to avoid.

Then again, the fact that Dybala’s agent is in Manchester for talks with United – and, more broadly, the sheer explosion of media prattle about the move – indicates that the forward, who has spoken fondly of United before, is at the very least tempted.

From Italy: Dybala meeting Sarri today, will discuss United transfer and Juventus

Paulo Dybala is set to return to training with Juventus today and will hold talks with Maurizio Sarri to ascertain his future role under the new manager amid interest from Manchester United, according to reports from Italy.

Man United and Juventus held talks in England last night and reached an agreement in principle over a deal involving Dybala and Romelu Lukaku, with the latter keen on a move to Italy.

Dybala’s preference, however, would be to remain in Turin, but there are doubts over whether he fits Sarri’s tactical vision.

According to Sky Italia and other reports, Dybala will meet with his new manager today before coming to a decision over his future, which is set to be revealed in the next 48 hours.

Dybala wants to remain at Juventus but Serie A champions want to get this deal done. They view Lukaku as a player who could easily score 20 league goals next season whilst dovetailing with Cristiano Ronaldo. The Belgian’s effort and selflessness appeals to the Italian champions.

Their view on Dybala swings the other way. Despite being a fan favourite and an undeniable talent, Juventus are concerned that the Argentine’s resale value would significantly drop if he were to have another underwhelming campaign.

More to the point, Sarri does not employ a clear No.10 role in the way former manager Massimiliano Allegri did, and his emphasis on a Ronaldo and Lukaku striker partnership, flanked by the likes of Federico Bernardeschi and Douglas Costa, suggests he may not be a certain inclusion in the Italian’s starting XI.

One way or another, we will find out soon.

Reports in England suggest that Arsenal youngster Krystian Bielik is closing on a £10 million move to Derby County (via Football.London).

For years, one of the biggest complaints Arsenal fans had with their club’s transfer business was the disappointing sums of money recuperated from transfers.

The likes of Aaron Ramsey, Danny Welbeck, Jack Wilshere, Serge Gnabry, and Lucas Perez have been allowed to leave the club for little to no money in recent years.

Now, it looks as if the club may be about to turn a corner in that regard if these reports are any indication.

Krystian Bielik joined the Gunners from Legia Warsaw back in 2015 but has spent much of his time out on loan.

The Polish defender impressed at Championship side Charlton Athletic last season and then for his country at the UEFA European Under-21 Championships in the summer.

Derbyshire Live has claimed that Derby County are close to agreeing on a £10 million deal with Arsenal which will see the Pole join the Championship club.

This summer was always going to be an important one for Krystian Bielik and it looks as if he will be heading for the exit door. There was some suggestion that he could push for an Arsenal first-team place in the coming months but that will not be the case. Still, £10 million is a good figure for a player who hasn’t made a league appearance for the club.

Reports in Scotland suggest that Kieran Tierney could join Arsenal as early as next Tuesday with talks progressing (via Scottish Daily Mail).

It’s a transfer story which has been ongoing for over a month as Arsenal continue their pursuit of Kieran Tierney.

The Scottish international left-back has been the subject of two bids from the Gunners this summer, both of which were rejected by his club Celtic.

That was several weeks ago and in the meantime, Arsenal have secured deals for three other players.

There was a feeling that the Tierney deal would have been left behind but it seems as if that will not be the case.

Reports in Scotland suggest that Tierney could be an Arsenal player as early as next Tuesday after a breakthrough in discussions.

Arsenal look set to pay upwards of £25 for the player in a restructured deal which will meet Celtic’s demands.

Kieran Tierney is said to be keen on the deal and would be a fine signing for Arsenal. The Scottish international is an exciting prospect who would add a lot to the Gunners’ backline. His injury record is a slight concern but if Arsenal can get him fit then he could represent a sound investment.

Man United agree terms with Juventus, final decision down to Dybala: report

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Juventus over a swap deal involving Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku, according to reports.

Juventus are now favourites to sign Lukaku, with Inter Milan stalling in negotiations and the Serie A champions willing to include Dybala as a makeweight for the deal.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed yesterday that Dybala’s agent had travelled to England to hold talks with United regarding the possibility of a swap.

And according to the Independent‘s Kevin Palmer, the first hurdle has been cleared, with the two clubs striking an agreement over a deal thought to be in excess of £80m.

The next phase of any potential deal entails Dybala actually agreeing to move. He and his agent have emphasised for some time that, ideally, “La Joya” would remain at Juventus, where he is happy, but Juventus appear to have different ideas.

That new manager Maurizio Sarri wants another forward in the form of Lukaku – who would allow Cristiano Ronaldo to play the ‘Eden Hazard role’ of a second striker, roaming behind the Belgian – suggests that he may not view Dybala, a more classic attacking midfielder, as congruent with his ideals.

Juventus’ board, moreover, feel as if Dybala’s value would significantly drop with another poor season in Turin (he only scored five league goals last term) and believe Lukaku can easily score 20 goals in Serie A next season.

Therefore, while Dybala’s preference is to stay, it could become quite clear to him that Juventus would prefer him to move on. Under those circumstances, a move to Old Trafford is on.

100% tackles won, 93% pass accuracy: New signing continues to dazzle

Aaron Wan-Bissaka once again gave a faultless defensive performance during Manchester United’s pre-season win over Kristiansund in Oslo.

The right-back, signed a month ago for a fee of £45m, has been a standout performer over pre-season and delighted supporters with his tackling.

His performance against the Norwegian side was militantly organised, packed with energy and dutiful execution from start to finish as nobody went past him.

Wan-Bissaka’s numbers from the game reflect what was another imposing display alongside his new teammates.

Pre-season is all about fitness, as anyone who actually does pre-season will tell you, which makes you wonder why Wan-Bissaka even bothered to turn up.

From pretty much day one, the 21-year-old has played with the kind of intensity and application you’d expect in, say, November of a Premier League season.

Quietly and assuredly, one of the scoops of the summer is bedding himself into that right-back spot.

Sky: Man Utd have agreed a deal in principle to sign Dybala

Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal in principle with Juventus to sign the sought-after Paulo Dybala.

The Italian giants are said to be willing to let the talented Argentine go as their interest in Romelu Lukaku intensifies.

The prolific Belgian has been on Inter Milan’s radar as well and it seems a move to the Serie A is inevitable.

However, it appears Dybala’s move to United heavily relies on whether he’s willing to make the switch or not and not what the two clubs agree amongst themselves.

The versatile attacker would essentially be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s ‘Galactico’ signing of the summer and would easily replace the outgoing Lukaku.

As exciting as the news is, fans must remain calm as the transfer is far from being official as there are finer details that need to be agreed.

Paulo obviously has to be willing to make the switch and so Manchester United’s offer has to be tempting enough to convince him.

So far it’s believed the dazzling 25 year old is more keen to remain in Turin despite news surfacing of his devastation over Juventus no longer wanting him.

Should Dybala make the switch, it’s a transfer no fan previously could’ve predicted would happen this summer.

Confirmed: Key Man United centre-back to miss five months after operation

Manchester United have confirmed Eric Bailly will miss up to five months worth of action after having an operation to resolve the injury he sustained in the pre-season clash vs Tottenham.

While fans knew right away it would be bad news, no one predicted he’d be out for such a long time.

The injury-prone centre-back will now likely return during the congested winter period which will make it even more difficult for him to get up to speed.

It appears Bailly is set for another rotational season at United and he could even see himself depart next summer should matters not improve.

Everyone knows the talented Ivorian is a top defender on his day but unfortunately he hasn’t remained fit long enough to showcase his ability.

With rumours heating up over Harry Maguire’s potential move to Old Trafford, Eric may return to the side with more defenders in it than when he left.

It will be interesting to see whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sells any centre-backs given how overstocked Manchester United are in the position and it’ll be even more interesting to see who remains.

While some fans have called for Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones to be sold, Bailly’s fitness issues may see him head out of the door first.

'Mourinho got one thing right': Man United fans praise McTominay show

Manchester United fans were thoroughly delighted with Scott McTominay‘s dominating performance during their 1-0 win over Kristiansund.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were expected to the thrash their Norwegian counterparts but instead only managed to scrape the victory by a penalty at the death.

United have now won all their pre-season fixtures so far with just AC Milan left before they begin their Premier League campaign against Chelsea.

Despite the low scoring end to the match, McTominay was fantastic and has continued to press the case for being the club’s outstanding pre-season performer.

With there being plenty of talk of the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Sean Longstaff coming in, the young Scotsman is proving just why he should still get a place in the starting XI.

With fans feeling Nemanja Matic is too static for Solskjaer’s dynamic and high energy tactics, Scott be set to have his breakthrough season this year.

In fact his manager has publicly demanded as much from him and based on what supporters have seen so far, it’s likely to happen.

Hopefully if any signings do come in, McTominay won’t be discouraged and Ole will still include him in the first-team as he is the Red Devils second best midfielder at the moment, behind Paul Pogba.

Player ratings: Man United win fifth pre-season game in a row

David de Gea N/A – Had nothing to do whatsoever.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 7 – Another ice-cold defensive performance, once again giving his best Gandalf impression. Used the ball well. Defending against crosses at the back post could improve.

Victor Lindelof 7 – Brought the ball into midfield on a couple of occasions, serving as the extra man in midfield. Did not have much defending to do.

Phil Jones 6 – Not particularly elegant at times. Found himself out of position for a rare Kristiansund counter and somehow managed to handball his own overhead kick.

Luke Shaw 7 – Very encouraging display. Tidy on the ball and full of energy, causing the Norwegian side plenty of problems down the left.

Nemanja Matic 6 – Started the game too sloppy in possession once again but grew in stature as United’s collective movement became crisper.

Scott McTominay 7 – The best thing about this performance was the sheer confidence of it. Slammed a rocket of a shot against the post and his passing was so much more ambitious. Looks to be growing with every game.

Jesse Lingard 5 – Got into good positions, displaying the right kind of thrust, but without ever producing any final product at all. Annoying.

Daniel James 6 – Similar to Lingard although he was more inventive with his passing, and of course his pace is just ridiculous. Needs to be more arrogant at times.

Marcus Rashford 7 – United’s standout performer. Cut inside from the left-hand side ferociously, and played with his chest out (figuratively speaking). Always looked to fashion shots or assists for teammates, forcing the keeper into a pair of good saves.

Anthony Martial 6 – Certainly had his moments in that No.9 role. Close control around the box was superior to other attacking players out there and got some shots away. His energy going forward was good but the Frenchman’s movement on the ball whilst on the break can be better.

Dybala’s agent in Manchester right now to discuss personal terms with United

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Paulo Dybala’s agent has arrived in Manchester to discuss personal terms ahead of a potential move to Manchester United.

Juventus have entered the race to sign Romelu Lukaku, who wants a move to Italy, and are willing to include Paulo Dybala as a makeweight for the deal.

Doubts exist over Dybala’s capacity to fit into new manager Maurizio Sarri’s system, and Juventus are convinced that the Argentine would be open to a move.

Romano, who has United Twitter on absolute strings at the moment, has confirmed that the move is heading in the right direction after confirming earlier today that we would learn about Dybala’s situation over the next few days.

Juventus’ sale of Moise Kean to Everton coupled with their desire to sign Lukaku indicates that, under Sarri, the need for an all-out No.10 like Dybala is not there. Like at Chelsea with Olivier Giroud and Higuain, the Italian builds an attacking model with them as the final difference in attack, laying the ball out wide for others.

The only stumbling block over a Dybala move is whether “La Joya”, as he is fondly nicknamed, actually wants to join United.

It seems as if, with his place in Turin under doubt, Dybala could be convinced to make a switch to Old Trafford.

Confirmed starting XI Kristiansund vs Man United: No Pogba

Paul Pogba has not been included in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI for Manchester United’s penultimate pre-season game against Kristiansund.

The Frenchman, who has starred over the summer, is left out in favour of a two-man midfield involving Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic.

Solskjaer has reverted to his more standard 4-2-3-1, with Daniel James, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford growingly looking like the quartet which will start vs Chelsea.

Here is the full starting XI for the meeting with Ole’s former side in Oslo.

A member of Nicolas Pepe’s family has revealed why the winger chose to join Arsenal over Napoli (via TalkSport).

A number of Europe’s top clubs were interested in Lille’s Nicolas Pepe this summer but one Italian side looked to have won the race.

Napoli and Carlo Ancelotti seemed the likeliest destination for the 24-year-old but all that changed last weekend.

Arsenal agreed on a deal with Pepe set to sign for the club in the coming days. Now, a member of the Ivory Coast international’s family has revealed why.

“After dismissing several clubs, Nicolas (Pepe) had the choice between Naples and Arsenal,” a member of the Pepe family apparently said.

“I will not lie to you: a total agreement was almost reached with Naples.

“But Arsenal has been more convincing at the last word, both financially and at the level of the sports project.”

It seems as if Arsenal were willing to offer more money to get their man. The Gunners have been guilty of failing to do that in the past when it comes to major signings. The likes of Eden Hazard and Cristiano Ronaldo come to mind. Let’s just hope Nicolas Pepe is half as good as either of them.

The BBC’s David Ornstein has confirmed that Lille’s Nicolas Pepe is in Arsenal ahead of the player’s move to Arsenal.

It’s a transfer which could be completed within the next 24 hours when just a week ago, it would have seemed impossible.

On the weekend, Arsenal agreed on a deal with Lille to sign their 24-year-old forward Nicolas Pepe in a club-record transfer.

Now, it looks as if the move is ready to take its final steps towards completion after the final agreement was reached.

The BBC’s David Ornstein has confirmed that Pepe has arrived in London ahead of his Arsenal medical and the finalisation of the deal.

From there, all that’s remaining is the signing of the contracts and the official confirmation of the deal.

It looks like Nicolas Pepe will be an Arsenal player before the end of the week. Just five days ago, that would have seemed impossible but the Gunners have moved quietly and effectively to get their man. Pepe will add a lot to this Arsenal team and his arrival represents a big moment for the club.

The BBC’s David Ornstein has confirmed that Arsenal are in talks with a number of clubs over the exit of Shkodran Mustafi.

Ask most Arsenal fans who they’d most like to see the back of amongst this current squad and Shkodran Mustafi will be the most common answer.

The German defender has been a disappointing signing since his 2016 arrival from Valencia with inconsistent and error-prone performances.

The 27-year-old still has two years remaining on his Gunners contract but has been linked with a move away from the club ever since his arrival.

Yesterday, reports in France suggested that the Gunners are in talks with Ligue 1 side Monaco over the centre-back.

Now, the BBC’s David Ornstein has confirmed the news, claiming that Arsenal are in talks with numerous clubs over the player who prefers to stay in North London.

It’s an interesting story. Arsenal have reportedly been trying to sell Shkodran Mustafi for several years but this might just be the summer to do it. Many Gunners fans would be glad to see the back of the 27-year-old whether it is a loan or permanent deal. However, with the Laurent Koscielny situation, the Gunners have some issues at centre-back.

Journalist confirms Man United are closing in on two superstar signings

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United are in advanced discussions for Harry Maguire and will find out about Paulo Dybala’s situation in the next two or three days.

Maguire, who is a priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is valued at around £80m by Leicester and the two clubs have been in talks this week.

While talk of a deal for the defender has been around for a while, the prospect of Dybala coming to Old Trafford is relatively new: only a few days ago was it revealed that Juventus would be willing to strike a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku.

Gianluca Di Marzio, also very reliable, noted that Maguire to United was practically done, while Romano added that the club would find out about Dybala’s situation would become clear in the next few days.

Reports have suggested that Dybala wants to fight for his place at Juve but the Argentine will first hold talks with new manager Maurizio Sarri about his place in the squad.

Maguire, on the other hand, is pushing for the move, which appears to finally be heading in the right direction.

This is classic Ed Woodward: a continent of silence and stagnation, followed by an absolute explosion. It promises to be an exciting final ten days of the transfer window.

Chelsea star explains why Blues can thrive without Hazard

Ross Barkley believes Chelsea won’t miss Eden Hazard too much, backing them to fill the void left by the Belgian.

Hazard has undoubtedly been the Blues’ star man over the last four or five years, so his exit to Real Madrid was always going to be a blow.

A new era is now getting underway at Stamford Bridge, however, as club legend Frank Lampard takes charge as manager.

Despite Chelsea having to battle on with a two-window transfer ban handed to them, positivity is still in the air in west London.

Speaking to reporters, Barkley feels the quality is there to make up for the loss of Hazard, as the Blues look to make a flying start under Lampard:

You have to fill in. Everyone in the squad understands he was a great player but he is gone.

He has new challenges now and we have to replace his goals and create the chances. We have that much quality in the squad we will all step up to the plate.

Last season when Eden wasn’t playing we still won games, we still created chances. We know he is an exceptional player but we have exceptional players in the squad.

We have young ones that will step up and produce the goods as well. We have Callum [Hudson-Odoi] coming back from injury and we have signed Christian Pulisic – he is an exceptional talent.

We have wingers who can create from tight positions, players who can shoot from distance and strikers – young and experienced – who are hungry for goals.

Chelsea open their Premier League account with a mouthwatering trip to Manchester United on August 11th.

They also have the UEFA Super Cup to contend with three days later, as they take on Liverpool in Istanbul.

Bid confirmed by director: Man United closing in on selling major player

Manchester United are closing in on selling Romelu Lukaku with Inter Milan director Giuseppe Marotta admitting his club are still working on a deal despite differences in value.

The prolific Belgian has been constantly linked with a move to the Serie A with Inter believed to be the favourites to sign him until Juventus recently entered the picture.

The powerful forward is apparently in demand which works in United’s favour as they can haggle for the price they want or demand players in exchange.

Marotta appears to feel that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are demanding too much for Lukaku but fans are adamant they should stick to their guns.

Whatever the case is behind the scenes, it seems inevitable that the former Everton man will depart this summer.

The Red Devils are giving Inter a little taste of their own medicine after they refused to sell an ageing Ivan Perisic for less than £50m during Jose Mourinho’s time in charge.

Solskjaer is losing a proven goalscorer so it makes sense to play hardball unless the club recoups the amount they spent on Romelu in the first place.

Fans are hoping this transfer can be dealt with swiftly so the club can focus their attentions elsewhere.

Di Marzio: Man Utd set to complete deal to sign Harry Maguire

Manchester United are reportedly set to complete a deal with Leicester City for Harry Maguire, potentially ending one of the summer’s biggest transfer sagas.

The solid Englishman has his doubters but for the most part fans are excited at his arrival as it would boost an area that has been short of top talent for quite some time.

The ball-playing centre-back is certainly better than the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo and so his presence is desperately needed.

United have attempted to negotiate a fee for Maguire for the majority of the summer but Leicester have held firm over their asking price.

A compromise was always expected to be reached but the longer the talks went on, the more fans felt the deal would not happen.

Doubts over Harry have more to do with the money being spent on him rather than the talent he actually has.

Some reports have claimed the Red Devils will have to spend in excess of £75m to get the talented 26 year old which has left a few supporters stating he’s not worth that amount.

Perhaps the club’s board feel the same way and so that’s what has held up negotiations, seemingly until now.

Huge concerns over Man United's central midfield signings this summer

This has been a summer of fake news to beat all others in terms of Manchester United transfer activity. But if you sift through the crap to read what the more reliable journalists have to say (and actually read their own words, as one of the latest fake news techniques is to “fake quote” one of these reliable journalists), their opinion seems to be this: Manchester United are prioritising the Harry Maguire transfer and have not made any move for Bruno Fernandes or Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Furthermore, they report that United will only go for those players if Paul Pogba gets his move to Real Madrid this Summer, which in turn looks increasingly unlikely, as Gareth Bale’s proposed move to China – believed necessary to finance the Pogba transfer – has fallen through.

Of course, these journalists may be wrong, and by the time this column is published, Bruno might indeed be on his way to Old Trafford for a medical – after all, his tears at the end of Sporting’s friendly with Valencia did look remarkably like a goodbye. But if it is true, and United do not buy a central midfielder, then Ed Woodward has sunk even further below his own pathetically low transfer standards than ever before and left United totally unbalanced and completely understaffed in midfield.

Compare central defence and central midfield between, say, Louis Van Gaal’s 2015/16 squad and today. In terms of centre backs, United have added Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof to the roster and lost no-one except non-specialist Daley Blind. Axel Tuanzebe has also come of age during that time, so effectively the club is up two players in this position since then, without Maguire being added.

Things in central midfield are somewhat different. United have added Pogba, Matic and Fred during the period, and McTominay has come through, but no fewer than six players have left – Blind (again), Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Carrick, Herrera and Fellaini. So the midfield has gone down by two to three players during the same period.

But it may be worse than that. Concerns are growing that Matic’s legs have gone, and Fred has still not found his feet in a United shirt, so you could also pencil those two onto a list of doubtfuls. Andreas Pereira may be able to adapt to the role and has looked comfortable there so far in pre-season, and James Garner may be able to step up, but the fact is, in terms of players without a question mark over their head, we have Pogba and McTominay. That’s it. Two “proven” and fit central midfielders (if you can call McTominay “proven” at this stage).

I’ll say it words Mr Woodward might understand.

SURELY UNITED NEED AT LEAST TWO MORE CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS.

SURELY THAT SHOULD BE THE PRIORITY, NOT HARRY MAGUIRE.

United are believed to have offered £75 million for Maguire. Fernandes and Milinkovic-Savic must both be worth more than Maguire, and the former is available for less and the latter for about the same. So why on earth have they not been bought already? Why have they not been prioritised?

I am not saying United would not benefit from a new central defender. It seems, unfortunately, that Eric Bailly has serious and chronic injury problems, Jones and Rojo are also injury prone and Tuanzebe has only proven himself at Championship level. But the fact is, whilst arguably none are world class, United do have six players available to fill those two positions, versus the four available (Pogba, McTominay, Fred, Matic) to fill the three central midfield positions.

I understand to some extent the “buy British” policy, but it cannot be at all costs. Not many would claim that “priority” target Maguire is world class, whereas Fernandes and Milinkovic-Savic are arguably two of the best midfielders on the planet today. They are both available. It just seems a no-brainer. And why do United need to prioritise anyway? There is supposed to be a transfer kitty of £200 million. All three can be acquired at their clubs’ asking prices for little over that (Maguire at around £76m, Fernandes at £60m and Milinkovic-Savic at around £80m, total £216 million).

This is not rocket science.

Tick tock Mr Woodward.

4-2-3-1: Solskjaer to pick strongest possible XI vs Kristiansund

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have his mind firmly on his starting XI vs Chelsea on August 11 as Manchester United travel to Kristiansund for their penultimate pre-season game.

The Norwegian, returning to his hometown and former club, will want to field the starting XI he feels will be best prepared to beat Frank Lampard’s side at Old Trafford.

This game will carry with it a ceremonial air but Solskjaer is set to use the clash as a means of further consolidating the high-pressing, counter-attacking style as seen so far this summer.

With that in mind, here is who we think will start the game in Norway.

Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong all deserve a look-in but Solskjaer, mindful of the season at large, will be desperate to see how Jesse Lingard configures in that No.10 role after giving a mixed display during the tour.

At the back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka must keep making that right-back spot his own, while Axel Tuanzebe partners Victor Lindelof. The young academy defender, who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, knows that this season is the one when he becomes first-choice in central defence. As Solskjaer has noted himself, the youngster is more than ready.

Journalist reveals major development in Man United’s pursuit of Harry Maguire

Manchester United fans can reportedly begin to get a little excited of their side’s interest in Leicester City’s Harry Maguire as a well known journalist has claimed he’s pushing for the move.

The talented Englishman has been one of the summer’s top transfer sagas and for good reason given what he would bring to Old Trafford.

The towering centre-back is an improvement on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s current defensive options but there are question marks over his price tag.

United have appeared hesitant so far which is understandable and it seemed for a moment the deal was not going to happen at all.

However, it appears Maguire is eager enough on a move to try to push for it which should help in negotiations to secure his signature.

There’s not long left to the summer transfer window so any major deals happening will probably happen soon as to give the selling clubs enough time to find replacements.

In truth, Leicester aren’t under any real pressure to sell Harry as their finances aren’t as bleak as they once were.

The only real reasons to sell is to avoid upsetting the player or to make a large enough profit for it to be considered good business before spending some of the fee on a replacement.

Reports in Scotland suggest that Arsenal will return with a third bid for Kieran Tierney soon (via The Scottish Sun).

It looks as if Arsenal’s transfer focus has been moved towards Lille’s Nicolas Pepe in the last few days as they look to secure that club-record deal.

However, for much of the summer, the focus was on Celtic and Scotland full-back, Kieran Tierney.

The 22-year-old was the subject of two bids from the Gunners which were both rejected by the Scottish champions.

Now, reports in Scotland suggest that the Gunners are preparing a third offer for the player in the hope that it will be enough to tempt Celtic.

The news comes at a time when the other leading candidate to sign the player, Napoli pulled out of the race.

Elsewhere, Arsenal are keen on raising £10 million for the 20-year-old Krystian Bielik who is attracting interest from a host of Championship sides.

It promises to be another exciting week for Arsenal. The Gunners announced deals for William Saliba and Dani Ceballos last week but could top it in the coming days. Signing Nicolas Pepe would represent an extraordinary piece of business for the Gunners.
