Patrice Evra has spoken to Paulo Dybala on the phone and encouraged the Argentine to join Manchester United, according to reports.
As confirmed by journalist Fabrizio Romano, Man United and Juventus held a meeting yesterday and reached an agreement in principle for a deal involving Dybala and Romelu Lukaku.
The key lies with Dybala, who wants to remain in Turin but will leave if it becomes clear that he does not align with the tactical vision of new manager Maurizio Sarri.
According to the Daily Mail‘s Nathan Salt, Evra, who played alongside Dybala for two seasons at Juve, phoned the 25-year-old recently and encouraged his former teammate to consider the deal.
It could be suggested that the mere fact of Dybala supposedly needing to be convinced to join United, that his preferred option is to remain in Turin, means that the deal should not go through at all. Comparisons with Angel Di Maria and Alexis Sanchez, two other South Americans who never really had their hearts in joining United, are impossible to avoid.
Then again, the fact that Dybala’s agent is in Manchester for talks with United – and, more broadly, the sheer explosion of media prattle about the move – indicates that the forward, who has spoken fondly of United before, is at the very least tempted.
