Petr Cech, who was recently appointed as Chelsea’s technical and performance adviser, has delivered an update on the club’s hunt for a new first-team manager.
The Blues have been weighing up candidates to replace Maurizio Sarri following the Italian’s move to Juventus earlier in June.
Frank Lampard, as per a report from The Daily Mail, is the club’s primary target, but Cech has recently revealed that he is not the only boss who is under consideration by the club.
He said:
The club has identified some of the coaches they are dealing with. The situation is open, Frank is one of the candidates. I could speak about all the candidates with the leadership, they know my ideas.
Lampard enjoyed a solid first season in professional management last season as he led Derby County to the play-off final against Aston Villa, where they fell narrowly short of securing promotion to the Premier League.
Cech is hoping to accelerate Chelsea’s pursuit of a new manager, and whether the man who arrives at Stamford Bridge is Lampard or not, the plan is to have a new first-team boss in place to take training immediately.
The technical and performance adviser said:
The first team will start the preparation, by that time we would like to solve the coach’s question.
