Chelsea boss gives his take on 'Sarri out' chants

Maurizio Sarri was in defiant spirits after Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Cardiff, despite fans singing about his dismissal.

The Blues won 2-1 away to Neil Warnock’s side on Sunday, needing a last-gasp Ruben Loftus-Cheek strike to earn all three points.

It was another unconvincing performance from Chelsea, however, with supporters still clearly not happy with the job Sarri is doing.

With the score at 1-0 to Cardiff, chants of ‘we want Sarri out’ could be heard, before the late turnaround.

Speaking after the game, Sarri was measured about the situation, admitting he can understand the situation:

They were probably unhappy for the result.

I can understand, I can understand very well. I am getting used to this.

It was a massive win for Chelsea, in terms of the fight for a top-four finish.

Although they are still in sixth place, the victory kept them a point behind Manchester United and the same amount adrift of Tottenham, following their late defeat at Liverpool.

Next up is the visit of Brighton on Wednesday night, with seven Premier League matches remaining this season.

Revealed: Man United's plans for the right-back spot next season

Manchester United are reportedly planning on bringing in competition for Diogo Dalot as they step up their efforts to sort out their right-back spot for next season.

Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Matteo Darmian are all the senior options for the full-back position but their futures at the club are unclear.

The Ecuadorian is said to be on his way out after not being handed a renewal to his current deal that expires this summer.

However, now that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the permanent manager of United he may opt to hold onto him.

Darmian is widely expected to leave but that has been the case for a few transfer windows now while Young has been the first-choice right-back all season long.

According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils are eyeing up a £35m bid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to provide competition for Diogo as Valencia and Darmian no longer have a future at the club.

The Portuguese is expected to make the right-back berth his own for the next decade but he will have to earn the right to do so.

Manchester United previously had two youngsters fighting for the same position in Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford and that worked out quite well.

Man United's surprising future plans for Mike Phelan revealed: report

Manchester United are reportedly set to keep Mike Phelan on as well having confirmed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent role but it seems the former is in for a surprise position.

Fans have lauded the return of the assistant manager who served Sir Alex Ferguson so loyally and to a great effect.

It’s believed his experience has been as central to United’s improved form as Solskjaer’s appointment initially as caretaker manager.

Phelan’s position hasn’t been confirmed at Old Trafford yet as it’s been said his current contract with Central Coast Mariner’s still has to be negotiated.

However, there aren’t any real concerns that will be an issue and so he should be present next season as well.

Mike hasn’t had any real, top experience as a technical director so it is a bit weird seeing him linked with that job.

It could be that Manchester United want him to have a dual role of assistant manager and technical director which wouldn’t be farfetched.

However, some fans feel a more experienced person should be hired as the role is a complicated one that needs full attention.

Nonetheless, Phelan taking on the technical director position could work in favour of Ole as the pair have a fantastic working relationship.

4-4-2 diamond: How Man United can get revenge on Wolves

Manchester United are set to travel to the Molineux Stadium on Tuesday evening as they continue their chase for a top four spot in the Premier League.

Wolves famously knocked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men out of the FA Cup just before the March international break began in what is considered to be the worst period under his management so far.

United will be keen to exact revenge on the home side but to do so will need to pull off a better tactical plan than they did the last time out.

A 4-4-2 diamond is exactly what Solskjaer will need to attempt to control the midfield whilst simultaneously getting the best out of his players.

The Red Devils started poorly against Watford on Saturday afternoon but once they moved to the aforementioned formation they experienced success.

David de Gea and the back four are the same as the one that beat Watford 2-1 given how Victor Lindelof’s return is uncertain.

Manchester United’s midfield trio of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera have hardly been displaced but they will need to gel together once again having been unimpressive vs Watford.

With Jesse Lingard at the tip of the diamond, it might give the engine room the energy needed to take apart Wolves while Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford‘s encouraging partnership up front should be allowed to continue.

Solskjaer makes this big prediction about Marcus Rashford

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has almost promised fans that Marcus Rashford will become a top goalscorer in due time.

The Englishman has already proven his prolific nature under the Norwegian’s management so far but he has been edged on to improve further.

Rashford has benefitted tremendously from being moved into a central role and it’s clear to see Solskjaer heavily favours him to others.

Anthony Martial has often been left out wide despite his preferences while Romelu Lukaku has enjoyed an upturn in form but mostly in the absence of the academy product.

Some sections of the United faithful believe Marcus is an incredible dribbler with tonnes of pace and dynamism but lacks the clinical nature of top strikers.

According to the club’s official website, Ole said: “He’s confident. He’s practised more and more finishing. Not only his shots, he’s doing more and more, wants to do more and more, and he’ll turn into a very good goalscorer. Don’t worry about that.”

Rashford chipped in with a crucial goal during his last outing for the Red Devils as he netted the opener vs Watford.

Solskjaer’s men looked second best for most of the match before the striker converted his effort to make his teammates breathe easy.

If Marcus continues to grow and improve his goalscoring record there’s no doubt he can become one of the Premier League’s finest strikers.

Often accused of snatching at his chances, Ole has publicly advised him to maintain his composure to increase his tally.

Solskjaer was not happy with this Man United player vs Watford

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reserved special praise for his defence after their solid performance vs Watford.

Luke Shaw, Ashley Young, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling made up the backline who fought their way to all three points against the London club.

United had scored twice through Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial and they would’ve come away with a clean-sheet as well had it not been for a superbly worked Watford goal.

Solskjaer’s praise was well deserved given how well the defenders worked to contain the away team but he did notably leave one name out.

The Norwegian has been lauded for bringing back the goals to Old Trafford but his defensive job has often gone under the radar.

According to the club’s official website, Ole said: “Shawy [Luke Shaw], I think he was one of the big plusses. Rashy and Anthony up front too, but the two centre-backs with [Phil] Jones, especially, and Chris [Smalling], I thought they defended well for us.

“Without them today, I think it would have been a different result, I have to say.”

Young is the one defender that wasn’t mentioned and it wasn’t a surprise given the torrid afternoon he endured.

Watford’s Gerard Deulofeu made it a point to constantly attack down his flank and it worked as the veteran struggled to contain his opponent.

Ander Herrera often had to shuffle across and provide protection for Ashley with even Juan Mata initially dropping back for support.

Plenty of reports have claimed Solskjaer is looking into bringing in new full-backs and it wouldn’t upset United fans if he looked to replace the former Aston Villa man first.

Big injury scare, key attacker could miss Wolves with injury

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed concerning news for fans regarding Marcus Rashford‘s fitness.

The Englishman has continued his fantastic form under his new manager, grabbing a crucial goal against Watford on Saturday.

United ran out 2-1 winners and it was thanks to Rashford’s goal that they had a chance at all.

The striker’s effort came against the run of play as Solskjaer’s men struggled to get going all afternoon.

Marcus’ played all 90 minutes of the fixture so it’s a concern for many that he’s seemingly injured.

The academy product pulled out of the England senior squad during the recent international break due to his ankle and it appears he hasn’t completely recovered.

It could be that something happened during the Watford to aggravate the knock but it is worrying nonetheless.

Manchester United’s attack is completely different when Rashford plays and they can’t afford to lose him.

Had Ole known ahead of time the youngster was still carrying the knock the Norwegian might’ve not selected him.

Perhaps since Romelu Lukaku was also injured, Marcus was risked instead since he might’ve been considered the fitter of the two.

The Red Devils didn’t have any other senior options to rely on so hopefully the Belgian can pick up where his teammate left off.

Who stood out for you against Cardiff? Vote for your Man of the Match.

Chelsea stuttered to a fortuitous 2-1 victory over Cardiff on Sunday afternoon, as the Blues profited from a number of contentious decisions.

Victor Camarasa gave the home side the lead with a smart volley less than a minute into the second half, and were on course for a surprise victory heading into the final 10 minutes.

However Cesar Azpilicueta’s header from a clear offside position gave Maurizio Sarri’s side a route back into the game, and substitute Ruben Loftus-Cheek completed the turnaround with a fine header in stoppage time.

Antonio Rudiger perhaps should have been sent off prior to the Blues’ winner, however, when he fouled Kenneth Zohore, who appeared to be clean through on goal with Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Following the victory, we’re asking you to vote for your Man of the Match using our duel below.

Substitutes make the impact as the Blues stutter to victory against Cardiff: Our Chelsea Player Ratings

Two late headers, one controversially ruled to be onside, secured a huge win for a largely uninspiring Chelsea side in Cardiff.

Goals from Cesar Azpilicueta and substitute Ruben Loftus-Cheek completed a dramatic turnaround in South-Wales after Victor Camarasa’s volley had given Neil Warnock’s relegation-threatened Bluebirds a surprise lead.

Warnock had more than enough reason to be aggrieved with the officials for their performance, as he saw Azpilicueta equalise despite being quite clearly in an offside position when the ball was flicked on.

Antonio Rudiger was then lucky to escape with just a yellow after he brought down Kenneth Zohore when the Cardiff forward was seemingly through on goal.

The two late goals don’t tell the whole story, and in spite of the victory Chelsea’s fans made their feelings known with persistent chants of “Sarri out” as well as hailing Callum Hudson-Odoi, who was again denied his first Premier League start.

The win has breathed new life into Chelsea’s top four challenge, whilst Cardiff remain five points adrift of safety.

Young Championship stars Chelsea could look to sign in the summer

One of the biggest criticism’s of Chelsea’s team this season has been the lack of energy and youthfulness to it.

The majority of Sarri’s squad are ageing, experienced, players who have been there and done it in the past.

However, you often need that breath of fresh air and youthful exuberance to be successful.

There are plenty of young, talented, players in the Championship and here are some Chelsea could target to add to their squad…

Four things we found after Chelsea's 2-1 win over Cardiff

Chelsea may feel like they were let off with one as they picked up a 2-1 win over Cardiff.

Spanish midfielder Victor Camarasa opened the scoring in the second-half for Cardiff, before Cesar Azpilicueta levelled – despite appearing to be well offside.

Antonio Rudiger was then given a yellow card after hauling down Cardiff’s striker off the ball, with Kepa well out of his goal.

Substitute Ruben Loftus-Cheek then popped up in the 90th minute to head home the winner.

Here are four things we learned…

European giants keen on summer switch for Maurizio Sarri

Italian giants Roma are reportedly hoping to have current Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri as their new head coach next season, according to the Express, cited by Sports Mole.

Sarri, who previously worked in Serie A with Napoli before arriving at Stamford Bridge last summer, has been under huge pressure with the Blues in recent months.

Alex Livesey/Getty Images Sport

Despite a strong start to life as Chelsea boss, Sarri’s side have been extremely inconsistent since the turn of the year, which has only increased speculation over the Italian’s long-term future at the club.

Meanwhile, Roma recently sacked Eusebio Di Francesco as their head coach following their Champions League exit, bringing in former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri until the end of the season.

And according to reports, the Italian giants have made Sarri their number one target for the summer.

With Sarri’s position at Chelsea far from secure, Roma may well feel quietly confident over bringing the 60-year-old back to Italy, which would leave Chelsea searching for a 14th managerial appointment under owner Roman Abramovich.

Proof Shaw is enjoying the best season in his Man United career

Manchester United star Luke Shaw deservedly got plenty of praise after his top performance vs Watford and the statistics put him in a positive light as well.

The Englishman provided the assist for Marcus Rashford as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men scored the match-opener against the run of play.

United had stumbled out of the blocks with Watford hungrier and more determined to get a win than their hosts.

Fortunately Shaw saw to it to ensure his side won all three points, putting in a solid display on both ends of the pitch.

The Red Devils needed someone to stand out for them having failed to ever get going and the youngster deserves praise for being that person.

There are fans that believe Luke isn’t as offensive as many believe but he has put those whispers to rest against Watford.

No one has doubted his defensive work and it’s clear to see the ten recoveries made mean it can’t even be disputed.

Three Premier League assists isn’t the best number a full-back has put in this season but it is suggestive of a player growing in ability.

Hopefully Shaw can continue to impress offensively and turn himself into a complete full-back for Manchester United over the next decade.

Solskjaer provides Martial injury update after hobbling off vs Watford

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Manchester United fan’s concerns of Anthony Martial picking up an injury vs Watford.

The Frenchman grabbed the match-winner against the stubborn away side who were excellent for much of the game.

In fact, many would agree United were fortunate in securing all three points as they struggled to get going at all.

Both their goals were scored against the run of play with Martial grabbing the all important second.

Watford hit back in the dying embers of the game but the Red Devils held on for the win.

Anthony initially started on the left-wing but was moved inside after Solskjaer tweaked the formation to try to get his side going.

The former AS Monaco man enjoyed playing alongside Marcus Rashford with the pair scoring both of their side’s goals between them.

It was suggestive of an exciting partnership for the future but it’s temporarily been disrupted by Martial’s injury.

Fans had initially felt that the youngster was substituted off after a fine display so that he could rest after just returning from injury.

However, Anthony was caught on camera wincing as he hobbled off the pitch, meaning it’s unlikely he’ll be able to feature in their next fixture.

Man United fans lament lacklustre performance from players vs Watford

Manchester United fans were not pleased with their players’ performances but were satisfied they managed to grab all three points nonetheless.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men stumbled out of the blocks against Watford and never managed to truly find their feet.

Marcus Rashford‘s goal was against the run of play but United fans were delighted they managed to grab an important goal.

Anthony Martial‘s second was even more crucial given how it seemed as though the away side were going to score at any moment.

The Frenchman’s goal ended up being the winner after Watford netted in the dying embers of the game to make matters uncomfortable.

There are far more difficult fixtures coming up for Manchester United with an action packed April just around the corner.

Solskjaer’s men have started to appear burnt out and it’s no surprise given his high tempo, attacking football.

Unfortunately the Norwegian hasn’t had a pre-season to turn his players into the hardworking generals he wants them to be and it’s starting to affect performances.

Rotation will prove key for United and hopefully they can keep injuries at an arm’s length to make sure their run-in is as successful as it can be.

Player Ratings: Smalling and Jones magnificent, Pogba and Matic woeful

David de Gea 7 – The world-class goalkeeper didn’t have too many saves to make but the ones he made came at crucial times for Manchester United.

Ashley Young 5 – Most of Watford’s attacks came down the Englishman’s side and it’s clear they saw him as the weakness in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defence.

Phil Jones 7 – The standout performer of United’s back four despite just returning from injury. Dealt with everything thrown his way with ease.

Chris Smalling 7 – Grew into the game and rose to the occasion alongside his centre-back pairing. His aerial presence was useful against a physical Watford side.

Luke Shaw 7 – Provided the assist for Manchester United’s opener with a perfect ball forward for Marcus Rashford. Defensively solid as well.

Nemanja Matic 5 – The Serbian just couldn’t get going and was incredibly wasteful. His lack of pace showed whenever Watford broke in behind United.

Ander Herrera 6 – Not a bad game from the Spaniard considering how he’s trying to get back to full match fitness after struggling with an injury.

Paul Pogba 6 – Not his best game and arguably his worst under Solskjaer. Didn’t stand out on either side of the pitch.

Juan Mata 7 – Struggled out wide but once he was moved into the attacking-midfield position he was brilliant. Linked up play fantastically for United.

Marcus Rashford 8 – The academy product was back to his goalscoring ways with a menacing performance vs the away side. His goal meant his side could finally start to find their feet.

Anthony Martial 7 – Put in plenty of effort but it seemed as though it wasn’t his day until he popped up with the Red Devils second to make matters comfortable.

Substitutes

Jesse Lingard 7 – Came off the bench to great effect, providing the assist for Martial’s goal to secure the win.

Andreas Pereira 6 – Came on determined to make an impact and was involved in Manchester United’s second. Didn’t have enough time to do more.

Italian giants handed blow in attempts to sign Chelsea midfielder

Chelsea are reportedly not willing to lower their valuation of Tiemoue Bakayoko for AC Milan, with the French midfielder’s permanent future still very much up in the air, Calcio Mercato report.

The 24-year-old made the move to the San Siro in the summer on a season-long loan deal and has impressed under former Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.

Emilio Andreoli/Getty Images Sport

The holding midfielder has been a regular starter in Serie A and recently scored his first goal for the club in a 3-2 defeat to rivals Inter Milan.

With Bakayoko’s impressive performances, Milan officials are hopeful of securing the midfielder’s services in the summer on a permanent basis, with a €38 million fee set by the Blues for the Italian giants.

The Rossoneri were hopeful of bringing that figure down ahead of the summer transfer window, however, according to the report, Chelsea look unlikely to budge with the club’s official transfer ban edging closer, meaning Milan will either have to meet Chelsea’s requirements or risk losing the Frenchman in the summer.

Revealed: The moment Man United decided to give Solskjaer permanent role

Manchester United considered Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as front-runner for the permanent job after the 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in January, according to reports.

The Norwegian raised the spirits of supporters by securing comfortable wins over Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town, AFC Bournemouth and Reading in his opening four games as caretaker manager, but the club’s tactically shrewd win at Wembley forced the wider football world to take notice.

An impressive tally of 14 wins from 19 games, including victories at Stamford Bridge and the Parc des Princes, served as the only evidence required for Man United to make Solskjaer the club’s permanent manager.

According to ESPN‘s Mark Ogden, the victory over Mauricio Pochettino prompted United to scale down their search for a more high-profile appointment. The immediate uplift both on and off the pitch had surprised and impressed club officials. That five-day trip to Dubai in January, during which Solskjaer begun laying down tactical principles and a specific blueprint for beating Spurs, seriously impressed those at the club.

Solskjaer’s attention to detail with all facets of the club since arriving in December has slowly eroded his image as ‘caretaker’. The Norwegian, through continuously winning games and espousing a mentality which chimed with the club’s values, very quickly became the obvious and only candidate for the biggest job in football.

4-1-2-1-2: Solskjaer to give this youngster chance to shine vs Watford

Quite a lot has happened at Manchester United since their last home game in the Premier League.

Since the dramatic 3-2 win over Southampton 27 days ago, Man United have knocked Paris Saint Germain out of the Champions League, lost away games to Arsenal and Wolves, and appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their permanent manager.

Another development is that a number of players have injuries, the severity of which for the most part is unclear. Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku, Eric Bailly, Luke Shaw, Nemanja Matic and Matteo Darmian all have injuries of some kind. Marcus Rashford sustained a knock on international duty but is expected to recover in time.

With that in mind, here is how we think Man United will line up against Watford at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Solskjaer indicated after Southampton that playing Andreas Pereira – who scored and assisted in that game – at the tip of the midfield diamond, encouraging those bursts down the centre, could well be the position where the Brazilian is best suited. He was nothing short of explosive in that role.

Combine that with the buzzing influence of Jesse Lingard, who can hover across the Watford defence as Rashford stays central, and you have a dynamic front three capable of destabilizing Watford’s low block.

Chelsea Predicted XI: Cardiff (A)

Following an eventful international break, in which both Ross Barkley and Callum Hudson-Odoi shone respectively, Chelsea will be looking to make a strong start to yet another packed schedule of fixtures as they kick-off their end of season run-in with a trip to relegation-threatened Cardiff on Sunday.

Aside from the performances of Chelsea’s English contingent, there were also impressive showings from Eden Hazard, who scored on his 100th appearance for Belgium, and Olivier Giroud as competition for places increases in a team bereft of ideas. Hudson-Odoi, however, will be the one player pushing intently for a starting spot in South Wales having incredibly made his starting England debut before his full Premier League debut.

After a disappointing result against Everton, in the sides last game before the international break, Maurizio Sarri will need to bounce back with a commanding performance and victory against a Cardiff side who were comprehensively beaten by the Blues in the reverse fixture this season despite taking an early lead.

Sarri has virtually a fully-fit squad heading into the game on Sunday, and as has been proven many times this season his ability to pick the right team will prove crucial.

Revealed: Manchester United's top two transfer targets for this summer

Manchester United have pinpointed Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho and Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane as their top two transfer targets ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.

Sancho has erupted onto the world stage this season, scoring eight goals and claiming 12 assists, but Man United’s interest in the 19-year-old dates back to when he was at Manchester City.

Interest in Varane, a World Cup winner, goes back even further, with both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho making unsuccessful approaches to prize him away from the Bernabeu.

And according to the Independent‘s Miguel Delaney, although both players are valued at over £100m, United are confident they can pull the deals off as neither Real nor Dortmund have flatly rejected their approaches as of yet.

French media outlet L’Equipe reported earlier this month that Varane was seriously considering leaving the Bernabeu. The defender, the report stated, felt as if an end of an era was happening at Real, but that notion may no longer apply following the re-installment of Zinedine Zidane, under whose leadership the club won three Champions League titles in a row between 2016 and 2018.

Prizing Sancho away from Dortmund will be even harder, with sporting director Michael Zorc stressing this week that the Englishman would be staying put until at least the end of next season. A hefty bid from United, however, may well be enough to change Dortmund’s stance.

Man United reveal when they will introduce much-needed technical director: report

Manchester United plan to install a technical director at the club by the end of this summer, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was announced as the club’s permanent manager on Thursday, has reportedly told the club which players need to leave and come in over the summer.

But supporters have for some time stressed the necessity of Man United introducing somebody to oversee and plan for a broad, long-term footballing strategy, like they do at most top clubs. It is speculated that the club wants to make an ‘in-house’ appointment, with Peter Schmeichel and Eric Cantona named as two possibilities.

According to ESPN‘s Mark Ogden, United aim to have a technical director installed by the end of this summer. There is a belief that, following Solskjaer’s official appointment, the club can now fine tune the job description – something they were notably unable to do under Jose Mourinho, who refused to work alongside such a figure.

United are looking at a technical director, rather than a director of football, because they want a figure who takes a longer-term view over first team, loan players and the academy. They will have an input, but not total control, over the club’s transfer policy.

Sarri explains how much game time Hudson-Odoi could get at Chelsea next season

Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri believes that young winger Callum Hudson-Odoi can expect to play around 30 or 35 games next season.

The Italian was quizzed on the winger’s future for large spells of his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s game against Cardiff.

Asked about the amount of game time Hudson-Odoi can expect to get between now and the end of the seaosn, Sarri was keen to stress that the player has already been involved heavily for a player of his age.

Marc Atkins/Getty Images Sport

Attention quickly turned to next season, with Sarri outlining the club’s plans for the winger, as reported by ESPN’s Liam Twomey.

That is if, in fact, the player decides to stay beyond the current campaign. After his emergence for both club and country, Hudson-Odoi is being heavily linked with a move to Germany.

Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool are also said to be extremely keen to sign him.

Chelsea star makes angry comments after shock retirement from international duty

Chelsea striker Gonzalo Higuain has announced his retirement from international duty, as reported on BBC Sport.

Higuain has been much criticised throughout his career for not putting in good performances whilst playing for Argentina.

Alex Morton/Getty Images Sport

The striker, who is on loan to Chelsea from Italian Serie A side Juventus, has a prolific scoring record in club football but he has struggled to replicate that on the international scene.

He was part of the Argentina squads that lost in three major finals. He said:

People remember the goals I missed and not the ones I scored. When you criticise someone maliciously it hurts everyone. I saw how much my family suffered, but I gave everything for the national team.

It’s one thing to say that the national team did not achieve our objectives, but when people talk about failure it’s very hard.

My cycle with the national team is over, now I’m watching things from the outside to the joy of many people.

He made 75 appearances for his country, scoring 31 times.

Azpilicueta reveals Chelsea's most lethal player - this will surprise you

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has revealed that Spanish international winger Pedro is the club’s most lethal player in front of goal.

As reported on Football London, the club’s top scorer this season is Belgian playmaker Eden Hazard.

However, Maurizio Sarri’s side have had some problems in front of goal and they have hit the woodwork more times than any other Premier League club so far this season.

Catherine Ivill/Getty Images Sport

However, Azpilicueta has been impressed with the manner that Pedro works in training, before reproducing his form into matches.

He said:

Training is a very important part of our job and recently everyone has been training hard and trying to get in the best possible shape for the games.

If I had to name one good moment then Pedro in front of goal, he makes the difference and you see when it comes to the game the way he trains, he repeats it in the game.

Pedro has scored eight goals in the top flight this season and one more goal will see him equal his best ever league return for the club.

Premier League rivals hold talks with Chelsea star's agent

Liverpool have held talks with the agent of Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, according to a report on German news outlet, Kicker.

The teenager is one of the most sought after players in Europe, with German Bundesliga side Bayern Munich also interested in signing him.

Catherine Ivill/Getty Images Sport

The Englishman is yet to start a Premier League match for the Blues, but he has played a key part in the club’s UEFA Europa League campaign so far this season.

It was reported earlier this week that Chelsea are ready to offer Hudson-Odoi a huge £100,000 a week deal, whilst also assuring him about his playing time going forward, but that may not be enough to keep him in London.

The tricky winger is currently keeping his options open and Liverpool are eager to take him to Anfield this summer.

Hudson-Odoi is a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge and the Blues are expected to fight to keep him at the club.

Midfielder's preferred destination revealed amid interest from Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United

Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella, with reports in Italy indicating that he is keen to stay put in Serie A this summer.

The 22-year-old appears to be all but set for a move away from his current club ahead of next season, but a switch to the Premier League does not seem to be on the cards.

Barella, according to claims from Il Mattino, as cited by Calciomercato, has informed his entourage that he wants to continue performing at a high level in Italy’s top flight for the time being, with AC Milan and Roma his two preferred options.

Marco Luzzani/Getty Images Sport

This comes as a blow to Chelsea, who had reportedly held talks with Cagliari about a possible move in the future.

The Blues were not the only Premier League side to have expressed an interest in recruiting Barella, either.

Il Mattino’s report states that Manchester United were keen, while previous claims indicated that Arsenal wanted to secure his signature this summer.

Blow for Chelsea as transfer target signs new contract

Chelsea have suffered a blow with the news that Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani has signed a new deal with the club.

The Italian has been linked with both the Blues and Arsenal recently, having not always managed regular playing time with the Serie A champions.

He has made just 14 appearances this season, but with current defensive stars such as Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci ageing, that could start to change.

Maurizio Sarri was linked with taking Rugani to Stamford Bridge last summer, reuniting the pair from their Empoli days, but a move never happened.

The 24-year-old stayed put and he has now gone one better and committed his long-term future to Juventus.

His new deal will keep him in Turin until the summer of 2023, all but ruling out Chelsea’s chances of signing him, for the foreseeable future at least.

Sarri will now have to look elsewhere for reinforcements this summer, should be still be in the job at that point.

Man United legends react to Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's appointment

Manchester United’s long list of legends and former players came together to congratulate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on his appointment with the club.

The Norwegian was originally handed the caretaker role but after plenty of fantastic results, he was officially appointed as the permanent manager.

Solskjaer was given a three year contract that shows the faith put in him by the board but United’s former players were keen to show their support as well.

The former Molde boss is well loved and respected amongst his peers so it’s no surprise to see the public affection for him.

There’s now plenty of work for Ole and his team to do but at least for now he has everyone involved with the club pulling in the right direction.

Perhaps Solskjaer’s permanent appointment can see some of these former stars return to the club in some capacity.

The former striker already opted to surround himself with people who know the club such as Kieran McKenna, Michael Carrick and Mike Phelan.

Many of the aforementioned stars have spoken out publicly about a desire to coach or help the club in one way or the other.

It would be wise for the club to continue protecting it’s identity and ensuring it’s history continues.

Man United dressing room reacts to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appointment

The Manchester United stars didn’t hold back their happiness with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being appointed their permanent manager.

Many of the players had publicly campaigned for the Norwegian to be handed the post after exceeding expectations in his caretaker manager role.

The United board opted to hand him the job beyond this year, handing him a three year contract and showing good faith in him.

Sections of the media had claimed Jose Mourinho rubbed most of his players the wrong way so it was pleasant to see so many of them back Solskjaer.

With everyone pulling in the same direction, the club feels as united as it’s ever felt despite suffering two back to back losses.

Hopefully the players continue to support Ole through thick and thin as some fans felt they downed tools with their previous managers.

Though things never really got going with David Moyes, it was during the Louis van Gaal era were some felt the players gave up.

Manchester United had a fantastic month or two defeating some of their top six rivals in consecutive matches that showed plenty of promise but failed to build on it.

Jose Mourinho also had a fantastic first season, a solid second before the third one came around with players claimed to have turned on their manager.

Man United fans believe Solskjaer won't succeed unless the board do this

Manchester United fans have called on the board to ensure Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backroom staff remain at the club as well, particularly Mike Phelan.

The Norwegian has made it a point to constantly express gratitude to his backroom staff, insisting the turnaround at Old Trafford has been a collective effort.

In fact when Solskjaer won the manager of the month award, he was adamant that his coworkers were included in the official photo.

Specifically Phelan has been praised by fans with many believing his know-how and experience has been instrumental in the upturn of form.

Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna have also been key cogs in the winning machine Ole has been running so far.

There’s no telling whether Solskjaer can succeed without the support of the aforementioned staff but there shouldn’t be a need to find out.

There would be no point breaking up a team that clearly works so well together and the former Molde boss has insisted he doesn’t want to make changes on that front, keeping all of his staff intact.

It’s believed the only reason Phelan’s appointment hasn’t been officially made is because it’s believed the finer details are being sorted out with his current club Central Coast Mariners where he’s a sporting director.

Man United fans tell board what to do next after Solskjaer appointment

Manchester United fans have reacted to the news of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent appointment positively but have also called on the board to ensure his success continues.

Many believe a director of football must be appointed and the Norwegian must be backed in the transfer market.

There has been growing concerns from supporters that the board only appointed Solskjaer as they believe he will save them money long-term given how he’s improved United already.

Reports had emerged that the club chiefs felt that the former Molde boss has saved them £50m as they no longer feel the need to invest in a centre-back.

Fans feel that signings need to be made regardless of whoever is in charge but now that Ole is the manager, they’re adamant he must be supported this summer.

David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho were all sufficiently supported by the board in terms of finances but it’s clear to see many of their signings were poor deals.

Occasionally poor because the player failed to make an impact or occasionally poor because the club overspent.

This is why fans feel getting the director of football decision right is almost as important as getting the managerial call right as well.

Soon-to-be Chelsea star suffers muscle tear

Soon-to-be Chelsea star Christian Pulisic could miss a month’s worth of action for Borussia Dortmund after tearing a muscle in his thigh.

As reported by ESPN, the forward suffered the injury during the USA’s 1-1 friendly draw against Chile and as such, he will be out for three to four weeks.,

Initially, the game was a huge plus-point for Pulisic as he became the youngest American to reach double-digit international goals, but it ended with him suffering the thigh injury.

Chelsea signed Pulisic in January for a fee of around €64 million and he was immediately loaned him back to BVB for the rest of the season.

Hes been finding game time hard to come by in recent weeks and this injury will set him back even further.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of Dortmund’s game against Wolfsburg this weekend, manager Lucien Favre confirmed that Pulisic was injured but didn’t give any time frame for his return, but ESPN sources tell them the American could miss a month’s worth of action.

Chelsea-linked goal machine's representatives meet with Barcelona

Chelsea might be set to miss out on signing Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic.

The forward is on loan at the Bundesliga club from Benfica, but the Germans will sign him then sell him if the Serbian is indeed to be on the move this summer.

With many European clubs said to be eager to capture the 21-year-old’s signature, Barcelona appear to have fired the first shot.

A Calcio Mercato report claims that club chiefs have met with Jokic’s representatives, with a move seeming to be drawing closer by the day.

Chelsea were one of the first teams to be linked with a move for the forward, but now might – for a multitude of reasons – miss out on signing the starlet.

The pending court case to determine the Blues’ transfer ban could bar them from signing anyone next season, but it seems as though the Jokic ship may have already sailed.

Agent of Ecuadorian forward reveals Chelsea want to sign his player

The agent of Ecuadorian youngster Johan Mina has revealed that Chelsea are one of the teams looking to sign the player.

Speaking to local outlet Area Deportiva, as cited on Sport Witness, Klinton Tenorio explained that the Blues have been enquiring about the player who is earning rave reviews in his home country.

From what I understand, one of the teams who are constantly asking for information from him are Chelsea, who permanently want to have him and take him to do internships to keep him close.

Tenorio confirms that the player, aged 16, will not be able to leave Emelec until he turns 18, but Chelsea are looking to get a deal arranged in advance.

They are aware that until he’s 18 he will not be able to leave. They want to have that closeness to have everything advanced by the time he turns 18.

Mina currently plays his football for Emelec but is yet to put pen to paper on a professional deal with the club.

This has opened the door for Chelsea to swoop in and get him signed before other potential suitors.

The 16-year-old forward has been impressing in the club’s youth ranks and it’s clear to see that he has done enough to attract the interest of Chelsea.

Chelsea plan mammoth offer in bid to keep star at the club

Chelsea are to step up their efforts to try and keep Callum Hudson-Odoi at the club.

The London Evening Standard reports that the Blues will offer him a huge contract worth £100,000 a week in their latest bid to convince him into staying, a staggering amount of money for a player of his age.

Bayern Munich remain keen to sign the winger in the summer, but there is now also believed to be rising interest from Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund.

Hudson-Odoi, now an England international, is out of contract at the end of next season and Chelsea could lose him for a small fee if he does not agree to a new deal.

The club rejected offers in the region of £35 million from the German champions in January, with Bayern said to view the player as a big part of their future plans.

The report claims that game time will be a decisive factor in Hudson-Odoi’s choice, meaning money may not be enough for the Blues this time around.

Club president holds transfer talks with Chelsea star ahead of summer deal

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has reportedly held talks with Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud as they look to complete a deal for the Frenchman.

According to French outlet Le Parisien, as cited on Sport Witness, the player appears to be edging closer to a move back to Ligue 1, with his Chelsea future in doubt.

It is claimed that Aulas has discussed Lyon’s ‘project’ to him, as they look to convince him into a summer deal.

Giroud has once again fallen out of favour at Chelsea, used mainly in the Europa League under Maurizio Sarri.

Despite January signing Gonzalo Higuain doing little to impress since his arrival, Giroud has been unable to force his way into the Italian’s plans.

The Frenchman has impressed when called upon in Europe and is currently the top scorer in the competition.

Chelsea have a decision to make on Giroud’s future, with Higuain likely to depart as well, the club could be left without a senior striker.

Chelsea star could follow Sarri to Roma in a move that wouldn't shock fans

Gonzalo Higuain could follow Maurizio Sarri to Roma if Chelsea decide against extending the striker’s loan deal.

Reports in Italy have claimed that Roma could be an option for the striker, who seemingly has no future at Juventus.

His loan deal with Chelsea runs until the end of the season, but the Blues do have the option to extend it should they wish.

Mike Hewitt/Getty Images Sport

As of yet, the striker has given Chelsea very little reason to do so, with his long-term future appearing to be away from London.

Like Higuain, Sarri is also being heavily linked with a return to Italy. Roma are eager to bring him back to Serie A, with the under-pressure Chelsea head coach among their top targets in the summer.

Much was made of the pair’s relationship after their successful stint at Napoli, but Higuain is yet to recapture his best form in London under the Italian.

Ex-Chelsea star gives key update on Hazard's future

Thibaut Courtois claims Eden Hazard wants to join him at Real Madrid this summer.

Chelsea’s Belgian superstar is being strongly linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu, following seven years at Stamford Bridge.

His hero Zinedine Zidane has returned to Madrid as manager, which could further increase the chances of him moving on.

Courtois was not a popular figure among Chelsea fans when he traded London for Madrid last summer and his latest comments won’t do much to change that.

Speaking to Onda Cero, the goalkeeper says his friend and international colleague wants to move on this summer:

Clive Mason/Getty Images Sport

Eden is one of my best friends in football. I don’t know if he will sign for Madrid or if the club wants him but he’s a great player.

I’m not the one making those decisions. To me, he’s one of the world’s greatest and as a friend I’d like for him to be here.

Do you ask me if he wants to come? Yes, he does.

Losing Hazard would be an undoubted blow for Chelsea, with the 28-year-old such a talisman over the years.

The winger has been linked with exits in the past and ended up staying, but it does feel different this time.

All will become clearer as the summer approaches, as Chelsea desperately try to keep hold of their star man.
