Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Anthony Martial this summer as they seek support for Harry Kane next season, according to reports.
The Frenchman has endured a difficult second half of the campaign, making just five Premier League starts since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January.
Martial’s confidence and form has dipped as a result, costing him a place at the World Cup this summer, and a number of clubs have expressed their interest in handing the youngster a fresh start, with Juventus serving as the most likely destination.
According to the London Evening Standard‘s Dan Kilpatrick, Mauricio Pochettino wants to add Martial to his squad as a means of support for Kane throughout the campaign.
Spurs closely monitored Martial ahead of his £36m move to Man United from AS Monaco in 2015 and have continued to admire the player during his time at Old Trafford. There is a hope among the Spurs hierarchy that the club can use Toby Alderweireld, who has fallen out with the board and attracted interest from Jose Mourinho, as a makeweight for a deal to sign the forward.
But you would be surprised to see Martial, despite his troubles this season, move to a club with no trophy winning pedigree to serve as mere backup when he could easily start every week elsewhere.
