Arsenal Legend: Gunners Are "Going Nowhere" With £60 Million Transfer Budget
Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has insisted that the Gunners are “going nowhere” with the lowly transfer budget of £60 million (via The Evening Standard).
It was something which caused anger amongst Arsenal fans when it was revealed that the Gunners were operating with a transfer budget of just £50 million this summer.
Since then, further investment has seen that budget increase but it is still eclipsed by the figures many of the Gunners’ rivals are expected to spend this summer.
Now, Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has spoken about the club’s financial situation and the former France international is not happy.
“When I hear about the amount of money Emery has to spend, I can’t believe it. Where are you going with £60m? You’re going nowhere,” Petit said.
“With that amount of money, you can put the best manager in the world on the sideline and the team won’t change much. There is quality at the club, but not to match the likes of Manchester City or Liverpool. They need to bring in top quality players.
“I want to say to the board: ‘can you just stop bringing in young players for one year?’ We’ve had enough of young players. The club is full of them. It’s been like this for 15 years now, we need something else.
“We need talented experienced players. We need big characters and big personalities. This is what has been missing. For me, £60m is ridiculous.”
A £60 million budget is far eclipsed by some of the club’s rivals but the figures are somewhat misleading. Payments can be staggered over several years and the club has already lost some big earners like Santi Cazorla and Per Mertesacker so there will be an increase in the wage budget too. It is certainly possible for the club to grow with this budget.

Chelsea eye stunning move for Serie A star

Gunners Target Speaks About Move: "Arsenal Are One Of The Most Important Clubs In England"
Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu has given an interview in which he has revealed that Arsenal are keen on signing him (via The Metro).
Arsenal’s transfer policy will take on an utterly new form in the coming weeks with the influence of new head coach Unai Emery and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat.
It’s assumed that the Gunners will take on a policy similar to that of clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla with a general emphasis on signing talented young players.
One reported target in that vain is Freiburg centre-back, Caglar Soyuncu.
The 22-year-old starred for Turkey in their 2-1 victory over Iran on Monday night and has given an interview discussing the alleged interest from Arsenal.
“Arsenal are one of the most important clubs in England,” he said.
“I know they’re interested in me, but there’s nothing finalised yet about my transfer.
“After the national team camp, we’ll have talks.”
Soyuncu’s agent was also quizzed about the reported interest from Arsenal and was asked if he believed his client is ready for the switch.
“Yes, he is ready,” said Mustafa Dogru.
“He came from the second division in Turkey to Bundesliga 1 and has had a good experience the last two years.
“The difference between Bundesliga 1 and the Premier League is not as big as from the Turkish second division and Bundesliga 1, so he is ready.
“He is perfect for the Premier League. We are sure he is going to make a big impact in the first season.”
Caglar Soyuncu is a promising player. The 22-year-old has had a fine season with Freiburg in the Bundesliga and would represent a solid acquisition in a position which is in desperate need of reinforcement.
