Zinedine Zidane has had his say on want-away winger Gareth Bale’s comments after he guided Real Madrid to a third consecutive Champions League triumph on Saturday night.
Bale netted an unbelievable bicycle-kick in between two Lorius Karius clangers as Real defeated Liverpool 3-1 at the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex in Kiev, Ukraine.
After full-time, the Welshman was open about how he felt regarding a potential Premier League return and basically stated that he wasn’t happy with his game time in Spain.
When asked about Bale’s comments in his press conference after leading Real to his third Champions League in his third season in charge, Zidane said: “[Bale’s] situation is a bit more complicated. Everyone has their own interests and future to think about. This is a squad and nothing will change.
“As I always do, I try to do my best and the best for the team. From time to time, some players deserve more time on the pitch, and I understand a player who wants to play more. He made the difference on the pitch tonight so it is natural for him to want more playing time.”
Bale has been heavily linked with a return to England with Manchester United, Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur for a few years and it could now become a reality after his fifth season at the Santiago Bernabeu.
He has been regularly dropped for Isco, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo throughout the 2017-18 campaign and might be tempted for a career change now he’s achieved everything he would’ve dreamed of at Real.
The 28-year-old would certainly balance out United’s attack, being a fully established right-winger, and it’s likely Jose Mourinho will be on red alert if he’s made available.
