Jose Mourinho is reportedly eyeing up Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart as replacement back-up for David de Gea at Manchester United, with Sergio Romero looking to leave the club.
Romero has acted as De Gea’s understudy over his three years at United but seems to impress every time he is given minutes in the cup competitions.
Hart has been frozen out of the picture by Pep Guardiola at rivals City and failed to make a massive statement when on loan at West Ham United over the 2017-18 season which leaves his future up in the air.
The Sun report that Mourinho is resigned to losing Romero this summer after the Argentine has been ‘planning his exit’ and the 31-year-old is seen as an ideal replacement.
Mourinho’s decision to drop Romero in the FA Cup Semi-Final and Final is what supposedly prompted his decision to find a way out, and if successful would mean United need a new no. 2 in between the sticks.
35-year-old Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon is also seen as a suitable candidate, alongside former United goalkeeper Ben Foster, who recently was relegated to the Championship with West Bromwich Albion and ‘may be approached in the next few weeks’.
This would obviously be a surprising move considering Hart’s current alliances and the fact that he didn’t even make the England World Cup squad, but only time will tell whether Hart will swap the blue side of Manchester for the red in search of a feeling of belonging.
