Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has claimed that Marcus Rashord made him a lucky manager during the pair’s time together.
The young Englishman bulldozed his way into the club’s history during the Dutchman’s second season in charge at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal had placed the then unknown Rashford on the bench while Anthony Martial was expected to start the match.
However, the Frenchman suffered an injury in the warm-up so it was the young academy man who came on in his place and as they say the rest is history.
Some fans believed Marcus saved his manager’s season from being a complete disaster but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to keep the former Bayern man at the club.
According to the Mirror, Louis said to the Sun: “Rashford is a big talent. When they are talents in your time, you are a lucky manager.
“Only Lingard and Rashford came the second year, then they were growing up. I’m always proud when you win something.
“I was very proud, for example, that we won the FA Cup with United and with those players.”
Louis van Gaal was notoriously sacked hours after winning the FA Cup in his second season in charge having guided the Red Devils to fifth place.
Jose Mourinho was then quickly hired and kept the faith in the club’s academy players with Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay all playing various roles this season.
With the Portuguese manager achieving 6th place in his first season in charge, some fans have asked the question- what could’ve been with Van Gaal had he stayed on.
