Chelsea’s plans to expand Stamford Bridge have been put on hold, with the club putting the stall in work down to an “unfavourable investment climate.”
This comes after reports Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has faced delays in getting a new UK visa, which reportedly expired a few weeks ago.
The plans for the new stadium were for a new 60,000 seater arena at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea set to move to Wembley whilst the work was going on at the Bridge.
However, with Fulham owner Shad Khan looking at purchasing Wembley Stadium for his Jacksonville Jaguars NFL Franchise, a move to Wembley is therefore in doubt.
“No further pre-construction design and planning work will occur,” a club statement said.
“The club does not have a timeframe set for reconsideration of its decision.”
Therefore, the club are set to remain at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future, with no move expected at the minute.
