David de Gea 7 – Kept the home side in the game with crucial saves either side of half time, including one with his feet from Shane Long.
Ashley Young 6 – Efficient on the ball and full of energy down the right, but couldn’t provide the service Manchester United needed in the final third.
Victor Lindelof 6 – Generally looked comfortable at the back, moving the ball along nicely, only to be caught out for a lack of pace at times.
Phil Jones 7 – Another accomplished performance from the Englishman, who is fast emerging as the side’s most reliable centre-back. Kept Dusan Tadic out of the game.
Luke Shaw 6.5 – Provided plenty of urgency and discipline on the flank, bombing forward whenever he could, but disappointed with his final product.
Nemanja Matic 6 – Looked after the ball well for the most part, but you could tell that the 29-year-old needs a rest.
Paul Pogba 6.5 – Anything promising from the home side stemmed from the Frenchman but he dramatically faded in the second half.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 4 – A performance that revealed in glowing terms that the Armenian’s confidence is in the toilet. Delivery and decision making was absolutely awful.
Jesse Lingard 6 – Missed a golden chance in the first half and, despite taking up good positions, could have his usual effect on the game.
Juan Mata 6 – Produced some good touches and looked after the ball well, only to go missing going forward. A microcosm of Man United as a whole.
Romelu Lukaku N/A – Sent a header just over the bar before coming off with a nasty concussion after just eight minutes.
Substitutes
Marcus Rashford 6 – Reminded everybody of the thrust and desire be brings to the table after some meek performances. His lack of presence in front of goal, however, sadly remains.
