Team News – Match Reports – Player Ratings
Match: Arsenal v Newcastle United
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Kick-Off (UK Time): 16:30 16/02/2020

Here’s how we rate Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal players:
Mikel Arteta – 9
It was a bold decision from Mikel Arteta to bring Eddie Nketiah and Dani Ceballos into the starting lineup but it worked well, particularly in the second half. The Spaniard must have put in a pretty inspiring halftime team talk because it was a proper game of two halves here.
Bernd Leno – 6
No complaints with Bernd Leno. He didn’t have the busiest match of his career but he did enough. The German was good in the air and kept good care of the ball.
Hector Bellerin – 6
He did okay. Hector Bellerin had a tough afternoon against Allan Saint-Maximin down that right flank. He struggled at times but got by thanks to some good cover from the players around him.
Shkodran Mustafi – 7
It was a solid performance from Shkodran Mustafi. The former Germany international defended well and moved the ball around the pitch with ease.
David Luiz – 7
David Luiz did well enough. The Brazilian kept Newcastle’s attackers quiet for the majority of the match.
Bukayo Saka – 9
It was a fine return to the team from Bukayo Saka. The 18-year-old produced an extraordinary assist for the second goal and it was what his performance justified. He didn’t have the best first half but grew into this match.
Granit Xhaka – 7
He did well enough. Granit Xhaka looked a little sluggish in the tackle but moved the ball well when he had it. He looked good alongside a ball-playing midfielder like Dani Ceballos
Dani Ceballos – 8.5
It was a standout performance from Dani Ceballos on his return to the team. The Spaniard’s influence just grew and grew in the second half as he showcased a fine passing range and ability to create chances.
Sub: Lucas Torreira (81′) – 6.5
He did well enough and kept things tight in midfield.
Mesut Ozil – 8.5
It was no coincidence that Arsenal’s performance picked up when Mesut Ozil started to see more of the ball. The former Germany international started to find pockets of space on the half-turn around midway through the first half. After that, Arsenal just kept creating chances and Ozil seemingly had a hand in them all. It was great to see him grab a goal late on, his first since last April.
Sub: Joe Willock (90′) – N/A
Nicolas Pepe – 9
It was a brilliant day for Nicolas Pepe. The Ivorian scored one and assisted two more to add some gloss to this Arsenal win. He didn’t have the best first-half moving forward but he looked a lot livelier after the break. Pepe also deserves a lot of credit for his work-rate, tracking back to help Hector Bellerin deal with the dangerous Saint-Maximin.
Eddie Nketiah – 6
It’s hard to criticise Eddie Nketiah too much here. The youngster probably should’ve opened the scoring after that cut back from Pepe but it just wasn’t to be for him. He didn’t look like a player who was full of confidence but he can be pleased enough with his efforts.
Sub: Alexandre Lacazette (85′) – 8
It was a stellar cameo from Alexandre Lacazette. He assisted one and scored another to end his long overdue wait for a goal.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 7
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did what he does best and grabbed a crucial goal for his team. Aside from that, he wasn’t the best player on the pitch with some wayward passes and a stop-start performance.
