Four second-half goals were enough for Arsenal to secure what could be a vital 4-0 victory over Newcastle United.

Match: Arsenal v Newcastle United
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Kick-Off (UK Time): 16:30 16/02/2020
—–
The visitors started well at the Emirates Stadium. Newcastle United were the better team early on but Arsenal soon settled in the match and started to find more of the ball.
Unfortunately for Mikel Arteta and the home fans, they struggled to do much with the ball. The visitors sat deep as Arsenal moved it this way and that trying to find a chance at goal. Eddie Nketiah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang both had a couple of snap-shots but there was little in the way of clear-cut opportunities.
Arsenal’s best chances came from range as Mesut Ozil’s influence grew. Aubameyang’s deflected effort just drifted wide before Nicolas Pepe forced a fine save from Martin Dubravka from a free-kick. Shkodran Mustafi almost bundled the ball home from the resulting corner.
Arsenal started the second half much more positively. The Gunners were quicker and livelier and soon created the best chance of the game. Mesut Ozil slid the ball through for Pepe down the right channel. The Ivorian shimmied this way and that before cutting it back for Eddie Nketiah in the box. Unfortunately, the Englishman’s shot was just a little too high as it clipped the crossbar and went behind.
The signs were good for the Gunners and things seemed to open up when Pepe picked the ball up on the right flank. The winger cut onto his left foot and lofted a cross towards the back post. Nobody jumped with Aubameyang as the Gunners’ top-scorer headed the ball into the far corner to open the scoring.
Just moments later and it was 2-0. Bukayo Saka picked up the ball on the left and put it between Valentino Lazaro’s legs to get past him. The youngster had time and cut an excellent pass back for the onrushing Nicolas Pepe who found the bottom corner with ease.
Arsenal looked a great deal more comfortable in possession after that second goal went in. Dani Ceballos and Mesut Ozil started to see more of the ball as the Gunners created chances. Aubameyang came close when his mishit cross clipped the top of the crossbar and behind.
But Newcastle reminded Arsenal that they were still very much in the game. Allan Saint-Maximin skipped past Hector Bellerin before whipping a powerful shot past Bernd Leno only for it to smack against the post.
At the other end, Bukayo Saka almost laid a goal on a plate for Alexandre Lacazette before the Frenchman returned the favour for one of his teammates. Ozil drove forward with the ball and found the Frenchman who struggled to find an opening to take the shot. Instead, Lacazette played a perfect pass through for Ozil who volleyed past Dubravka to make it 3-0.
But Lacazette wasn’t done. The good karma the Frenchman earned with his assist was repaid with a late goal. Nicolas Pepe was found by Joe Willock and the Ivorian cut it back for Lacazette. The Frenchman’s finish was scuffed but it found the back of the net and ended his goal drought to secure a thumping win.
