Manchester United star Victor Lindelof was closer to a Barcelona move than previously believed according to his agent Hasan Cetinkaya.
The Swede centre-back was linked with a potential move to Spain but many fans believed they were simply rumours to help him in negotiations over an extension.
However, Cetinkaya opens up over what happened last summer, detailing how the La Liga giants made Lindelof their first-choice signing.
United had other problems last summer, such as holding onto Paul Pogba and attempting to get Solskjaer’s revolution going.
Of course only three players were signed in the end, which merited it’s own criticism but it appears the club did well to hold onto Lindelof as well.
Hasan Cetinkaya (Lindelof's agent): "Lindelof was perhaps #mufc's best player last season, and there was a lot of interest from clubs that are even better at the moment. When De Ligt chose Juventus, Victor was pronounced Barcelona's first choice." #mulive [aftonbladet]

Hasan Cetinkaya: "His way of playing, his DNA, is very close to Barcelona's way of playing. He is one of the world's best centre-backs with the ball at his feet, and Barcelona wanted him. That's how it was. I can talk about that now." #mulive [aftonbladet]

Hasan Cetinkaya: "They [Barcelona] contacted Ed Woodward on numerous occasions with concrete offers [for Lindelof]. I had a meeting with Matt Judge, to try to make a transition. But they just said: 'There is no chance. Victor is one of our best players'." #mulive [aftonbladet]

Lindelof never publicly spoke of a desire to leave and appears to be enjoying his time with the Red Devils so far.
He has just extended his contract so it is unlikely he’s going anywhere anytime soon but rejecting Barcelona a second time surely must be difficult.
If Manchester United fail to have a successful season this year as well then it could make a transfer even more possible as Lindelof enters the peak years of his career.
Perhaps the former Benfica man’s move to Barcelona could see Samuel Umtiti move in the other direction given the club’s previously reported interest in him.
