Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is reportedly planning for the club’s long-term future by approaching AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma in preparation for David de Gea‘s potential departure.
Despite previous reports claiming Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will trust back-up goalkeeper Sergio Romero and youngster Dean Henderson to fill the Spaniard’s boots, it appears that has now changed.
The Argentinian is widely considered amongst United fans to be the best back-up goalkeeper in the world and perhaps he does deserve a chance in the spotlight.
However, it seems Woodward wants to ensure success by investing in Donnarumma who’s expected to become amongst the best goalkeepers in the world.
Despite being so young, the Italian already has plenty of experience and can still develop further if given the opportunity.
According to the Express, Corriere della Sera report that AC Milan have told Gianluigi they have to sell him due to missing out on Champions League football with the Red Devils able to sign him for around £50m.
It was previously believed the Serie A side would never sell one of their best assets but if there are financial struggles then perhaps Solskjaer should take advantage.
Given how Milan will playing in the Europa League next season as well, Donnarumma won’t be too proud to turn down a move to Old Trafford due to the lack of Champions League football.
