Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt has reportedly moved away from a transfer to Barcelona, handing Manchester United a huge boost in their pursuit of him.
The two sides were locked head to head for the Dutchman’s signature but it seems those at Old Trafford have surprisingly been given an advantage.
The centre-back seemed to be nailed on to sign for Barcelona but the longer the summer goes on, the more the rumours continue to circulate with no end in sight.
United are certainly the more desperate side as De Ligt would definitely be an upgrade on all their defenders in their leaky backline.
The Spanish side already have the likes of Clement Lenglet, Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti employed, making the youngster’s transfer one for the future.
According to the Express, Sport report that Matthijs has moved away from Barcelona’s interest since they won’t improve their current offer despite interest from the Red Devils and PSG.
The teenager is the most wanted player on the planet at the moment and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer landing him would be surprising given the club’s circumstances.
Manchester United have no Champions League football to offer, no end in sight to their struggles and have reportedly changed their transfer strategy so they’re no longer overspending on players.
