Manchester United reportedly have no real chance in signing Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt after a recent development practically rules them out of the race.
The Dutchman emerged as a surprise target of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s as it was initially believed a move to Barcelona was all but confirmed.
The centre-back is the most coveted teenager in the world at the moment with just about everyone trying to get their hands on him.
De Ligt would add certain quality to whichever team he moves to and United were initially handed a shot when it became clear that while he wants a decent salary, guarantee of first-team action was more important.
However, with this latest development it seems incredibly unlikely as they’ve been blown out of the water.
According to the Mirror, De Telegraaf report that PSG are happy to meet Matthijs’ £75m evaluation and to satisfy the demands of his agent too, giving them a strong advantage over the likes of the Red Devils’ and Barcelona.
The Ligue 1 side’s interest almost ends Solskjaer’s interest as they can offer Champions League football, first-team mates and all the money in the world.
United’s one strength in negotiations has clearly been lost and so they may have to turn their attentions elsewhere.
