Manchester United are at risk of seeing their squad fall apart after reports emerged over Marcus Rashford‘s future being in doubt.
The Englishman is the club’s academy poster boy since breaking onto the scene during Louis van Gaal‘s reign.
The youngster is one of the players many United fans feel the squad should be built around but unfortunately that may not come into being.
It’s believed Rashford’s current contract expires in the summer of 2020 but there is an option to trigger a one more year extension.
However, that’s still not enough to secure the striker’s long-term future, particularly with Barcelona said to be lurking about.
According to The Sun, Marcus doesn’t want to commit his future to the Red Devils until he’s sure they’re heading in the right direction, sharing his ambitions.
Supporters don’t really feel threatened over the academy product’s potential departure but things can move fast in football.
At one moment Rashford is Mancunian through and through and at the next he could leave to secure trophies elsewhere having not felt valued at Manchester United.
The club’s board have a growing reputation of only beginning contract negotiations at the last moment in a bid to save money but it’s a strategy that could seriously backfire on them.
