Marouane Fellaini has agreed personal terms with Chinese Super League club Shangdong Luneng ahead of leaving Manchester United after five and a half years at the club, according to the BBC.
The midfielder, one of Jose Mourinho’s favourites, signed a new two-year contract at Old Trafford over the summer.
However, Fellaini has fallen out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, failing to start a single Premier League game since the Norwegian’s arrival before Christmas.
And according to Simon Stone, personal terms with the Chinese club have been agreed, although Man United have not declared whether a fee for the midfielder has been settled on.
Solskjaer noted recently that he did not expect any players to leave before the transfer window shuts. The Fellaini developments, however, appear to have sprung out of nowhere. He appears to have been tabled an offer he, nor the club, could refuse.
The English transfer window closes at the end of this month but China’s transfer window doesn’t close until February 28, giving Shangdong plenty of time to strike a financial agreement for Fellaini. A fee of £7m has been mooted by several reports.
