Manchester United are under significant commercial pressure to keep star midfielder Paul Pogba.
The Frenchman has been linked to a number of European clubs with his relationship with manager Jose Mourinho deteriorating over the last few months.
Pogba was recently stripped of the vice-captaincy at Man United and his comments in the media have indicated that there is clearly something wrong at the club.
However, the directors at United are concerned that they wouldn’t be able to replace Pogba’s commercial value.
The sale of the midfielder “would hit [the] bank balance”, reports the Mail.
There are no other players in the United squad that have the same global status as Pogba, and his partnership with Adidas is a big factor for United.
It speaks volumes of the priorities at Old Trafford that they are focused on Pogba’s commercial value rather than his undoubted brilliance as a footballer.
United are now a club more concerned with their bank balance and commercial image than their performance on the football pitch. Of course, football is a business. But the right balance must be struck.
With the Glazer family as owners and Ed Woodward in charge of the club, that balance has not been struck.
