Juventus star Miralem Pjanic has insisted that Manchester United legend Paul Scholes was key in the development of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo will make his second return to Old Trafford on Tuesday night as Man United take on the Portuguese great’s current side Juventus.
The forward has played at Old Trafford only once since leaving United in 2009 for Real Madrid in a then-world record transfer deal. That was with Los Blancos in the UEFA Champions League in 2013. This time, with Juventus, it’s in the group stages, having been in the knockout rounds last time.
Ronaldo’s teammate Pjanic gave credit to former-United midfielder Scholes for helping Ronaldo to develop into the world’s best.
“He is the best player in the world now,” Pjanic said, speaking ahead of Tuesday night’s game.
“Look at how much he’s developed. He is more concrete now. I’ve read many things that Cristiano said about Scholes and I think Ronaldo’s improvement also depends on an extraordinary example like Scholes.
“He’s learnt a lot by players like Scholes.”
Scholes was a sensationally good player and anyone playing with him would learn a huge amount. Ronaldo would be no exception.
Just playing with players of Scholes’ quality as a young footballer would do a huge amount.
