Player ratings: United's worst performance of the season

Sergio Romero 6 – Made two very important saves in either half but, on his first appearance since April, received his marching orders for handling the ball outside of the box.

Diogo Dalot 7 – A very solid home debut from the Portuguese. Kept up with the pace of the game and used the ball well, showing a willingness to get forward. Supplied a wonderful cross for Marouane Fellaini‘s late equaliser.

Eric Bailly 6 – Started the game shakily but quickly grew into United’s best defender, commanding a strong influence in the box for the most part.

Phil Jones 5 – Never looked properly settled. Lost his position on a few occasions early on in the game and seemed to be overpowered by Derby’s pace as the game went on.

Ashley Young 5 – Looked lively going forward to start with but, as the game progressed, lagged behind the pace of the game more and more. Delivery wasn’t particularly good either.

Ander Herrera 5 – Threw himself about like usual, making some important interceptions, but his quality in possession was nowhere near good enough.

Nemanja Matic 5 – The Serbian does not seem at his usual level of sharpness. Took too long on the ball and his passing was off. Clearly still recovering from his operation.

Juan Mata 6 – Scored a beautiful goal early on and, although his influence waned, played an important role in feeding the ball forward through midfield.

Jesse Lingard 5 – Provided a nice assist for Mata’s goal but, aside from that, buzzed around the pitch to very little effect once again.

Anthony Martial 7 – Manchester United’s best player by some distance. Decimated Derby’s back line in the first half, bursting forward at will, and maintained that attitude throughout the game. Another very encouraging display.

Romelu Lukaku 4 – Not the Belgian’s night. Wasted two massive chances – one a clear run on goal and the other a point blanc header – and did next to nothing in the second half.
