Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has revealed that his side will give priority to a top four finish in the Premier League than any of the cup competitions, according to a report on Goal.com.
The Italian boss was left frustrated as his side fell to defeat to West Ham United on Saturday at the London Stadium.
Conte is wary of the competition for a UEFA Champions League spot and says that he will ensure his players remain focused to qualify for the competition next season.
Conte said:
There are six top teams and there are only four places for the Champions League and two places for the Europa League.
Don’t forget, two years ago Chelsea missed this target, last season we didn’t play European games. Our priority is to play the league. I repeat, we have our target to try to play for one of the four places in next season’s Champions League.
The Blues were drawn today with Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona in the last-16 and Conte will know that his side will face a difficult test against Lionel Messi and co.
The manager was disappointed with his side as they failed to score after having 19 efforts on goal and reveals that they must be more clinical if they are to finish in the top four.
It is not right to lose confidence, and also don’t forget today we shot 19 times but we didn’t score. For sure, we have to improve our finishing and be more clinical.
The Blues travel to Huddersfield Town in midweek in a game that Conte must win to ease some pressure off his side.
