Manchester United fans were far from happy following the penalty shootout loss to Derby at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup.
Though the competition may not have as much prestige as other cups, supporters were still disappointed having been knocked out by a Championship club.
United may have even been lucky to have had matters taken into a penalty shootout after having their 1-0 lead overturned by a fierce away side.
Sergio Romero got sent off in the second half for handling the ball outside of the box but the players managed to equalise through Marouane Fellaini.
There was hope following that moment but it wasn’t enough to see the Red Devils advance in what could prove to be their only winnable trophy.
We may have lost to Derby County but at least we have more followers on Facebook than the NBA, the NFL and NHL combined.

'A lesson that some boys are not learning' was Jose Mourinho's warning pre-match and again United pay price for not not matching the opposition's intensity and getting that second goal earlier. Should have been 3-0 up inside 15 minutes. #mufc

Same old story for Mourinho. Gets to the third season – the performances drop, player fallouts. Other clubs have acted quickly and reaped rewards. Both Real Madrid & Chelsea won major trophies the season after Mourinho was sacked. The squad is there for the right manager #MUFC

Disgusting performance no leaders whatsoever, will always love the club , but it’s a shambles at the moment and I see it getting worst . Don’t sugar coat it .. we are very poor .

That’s just shocking. Also, can’t blame Phil Jones for missing a penalty Jesus Christ. We were shit. Mourinho is on thin ice. As much as I’ve backed him, we need to get results. If we drop points this weekend, he has to go.

The defeat isn’t the only issue as it’s the manner of the defeat with Manchester United failing to press on after Juan Mata grabbed an early goal for the team.
Jose Mourinho’s men were expected to press on and kill the game but it was Derby who grew into the match, scoring twice to put the pressure on the home side.
In isolation it’s not a big deal to be knocked out in the Carabao Cup but there’s no doubting United didn’t fight for the result and had enough good quality players on paper to win comfortably.
