Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that there is now set way to deal with the Paul Pogba situation at Manchester United.
Jose Mourinho and Pogba seemingly have a frosty relationship and have done for some time. Pogba was removed as the club’s vice-captain earlier this week ahead of Man United’s League Cup third round fixture against Championship side Derby County, which they lost 8-7 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time.
The pair then clashed in training with Sky Sports cameras filming the minor confrontation, which has since been cleared up by Mourinho.
Pogba has frequently made slightly inflammatory comments in the media, but Mourinho insisted his relationship with the Frenchman is “good” and that Pogba has been training fantastically. Pochettino says it’s impossible to say how it’s best to deal with Pogba and any other player.
“There is not one solution. Nobody is going to teach you, it’s not in a book,” the Spurs boss told reporters in a press conference.
“It’s like in a game. Every single action needs a reaction [using] your intuition, experience.
“When something wrong happens in the dynamic of the group it’s always about your experience, how you are going to manage. But there’s no clear way to behave.
“I think everything is different and you are going to react depending on your emotional state, whether you are in a good or a bad mood.”
Pochettino has been rumoured as a potential replacement for Mourinho at Old Trafford, having also been linked to the Reds before Mourinho arrived at United to replace Louis van Gaal.
The Argentine has done a fantastic job at Tottenham, although no one knows how he would deal with players like Pogba. Pochettino has never had to manage players with big egos, huge wages and massive reputations.
