With a daunting two-window transfer ban looming over Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s current striking options include: 31-year-old loanee Gonzalo Higuain and 32-year-old established back-up Olivier Giroud while questions are still being asked over Michy Batshuayi.
Tammy Abraham is expected to complete a permanent move away from the club after a string of loans move too, so you would expect the Blues to sign a striker they can rely on this summer.
Mauro Icardi is set to depart Inter Milan as new boss Antonio Conte doesn’t want him as part of his set-up and he’s been linked with both Chelsea and Manchester United.
Inter’s Serie A rivals Napoli appear to have joined the race though, with Calciomercato claiming out of Icardi and Torino’s Andrea Belotti, the former is Carlo Ancelotti’s preferred striker target this summer.
Icardi’s €100million valuation could tilt heads though, and result in Inter pursuing cheaper alternatives which would give Chelsea a clear route for the 26-year-old, but at such a high sum it presents a large risk if all doesn’t go to plan.
And you wouldn’t bank on it going to plan, with the way Chelsea’s previous striker signings have gone.
