Juan Mata has sent teammate Luke Shaw a heartfelt message of support after the full-back was stretchered off during England’s 1-2 defeat to Spain.
Shaw begun the clash with Luis Enrique’s side brilliantly, supplying an inch-perfect cross for Marcus Rashford to open the scoring.
He was involved in a nasty collision with Dani Carvajal, who contacted him after the game, that left him on the floor receiving oxygen for some time.
Mata, writing in his weekly blog, noted Shaw had been in top form at Manchester United and wished him a speedy recovery.
“The worst news from that match was Luke Shaw’s collision, which forced him off the field due to injury,” he said.
“As you’re all aware, he has been in really good form over the last few weeks, I hope that it won’t be anything serious and that he can be back fit as soon as possible. I’m sending you a big hug and my best wishes, Luke.”
Thankfully the injury is not as serious as first feared. Shaw was awake and talking soon after coming off, tweeting to supporters that he would be back soon.
He has returned to Carrington this week following the FA’s confirmation that scans the following day had showed the defender to have suffered a concussion. Supporters will be glad to hear the knock is not anything more serious.
