Manchester United are keen to work on securing new contracts for eight players over the 2018/19 season, according to reports.
David de Gea is the most high profile player from the list. Jose Mourinho recently said he expected him to sign on the dotted line soon but the Spaniard, currently on around £200,000-a-week, wants a wage package on par with Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba, the club’s top earners.
Anthony Martial, who looked set to leave Old Trafford in the summer, is expected to pen a brand new deal at Man United, with Ed Woodward desperate to keep him.
According to M.E.N‘s Samuel Luckhurst, Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian, Phil Jones, alongside youngsters Andreas Pereira and James Wilson, are all in line to receive new contracts this season.
Every player has an extension clause on their contract to prevent them leaving for free, but the club is nonetheless keep to shore up their futures or, in some cases, optimise the amount they will receive from selling them off.
Moreover, Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Ashley Young are free to talk with other clubs in January. Mourinho will certainly want the quartet to commit their long-term futures to Old Trafford sooner rather than later.
