Jose Mourinho has stated his happiness after Manchester United kicked off their 2018-19 Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over Leicester City on Friday night.
Paul Pogba opened the scoring from the penalty spot after just three minutes before Luke Shaw bagged his first career goal late on to make Jamie Vardy’s stoppage-time instinct header simply a consolation.
After full-time at Old Trafford, we saw a more jolly Mourinho than usual and he mentioned that Executive Chairman of the Premier League Richard Scudamore will be just as happy as him with how the first match of the new campaign went.
He told Sky Sports: “I think Mr [Richard] Scudamore must be happy because it’s a good way to start the Premier League. It was a good match with three good teams, in my opinion.
“A match where I needed six changes not three, [Three] weren’t enough for me. I want to play [Anthony] Martial for [Juan] Mata or Alexis but I couldn’t. Paul Pogba couldn’t play 90 minutes, Fred the same.
“I needed more changes, but I couldn’t so it was not easy to manage the game from the touchline point of view.”
Mourinho had previously criticised Scudamore and other Premier League organisers for making Man United play before every other team because of less time for preparation but he was all smiles after the Leicester City.
United will look to build on their start when they travel down to Brighton & Hove Albion next Sunday, a place where they were defeated last season.
