Arsenal’s Head of High-Performance Darren Burgess has revealed what head coach Unai Emery most wanted to change about the club (via Fox Sports).

It has been a summer of tremendous change and hard work at Arsenal as head coach Unai Emery prepares for his first season at the club.

The Spaniard replaced Arsene Wenger several months ago and is now preparing his side for the Premier League opener on Sunday.

There were obvious problems with the Arsenal side last season and now, the club’s Head of High-Performance Darren Burgess has revealed what Unai Emery most wanted to fix as head coach.

“Most people recognised that our defence was poor last season,” Burgess confessed.

“We conceded a ridiculous number of goals around 50 or something which Arsenal hadn’t done in maybe 15 years so one thing he’s been working on unsurprisingly is making the team a bit more solid and better organised in that area.

“Obviously, it remains to be seen how successful that is but that’s an area he’s focused on. He’s very particular on player positioning depending on where the ball is in certain areas of the pitch. His sessions are very intricate in that regard.

“Not better or worse to the previous way but certainly different.”

This is exactly what Arsenal needed to change on the pitch and training ground. The Gunners conceded far too many goals last season and hopefully, that will change this year.
