Unai Emery has reacted to Arsenal’s Europa League group stage opponents after the draw was made on Friday (via Arsenal.com).
Arsenal ultimately came close to winning the UEFA Europa League last season and this season’s competition has started again.
A semi-final defeat to Atletico Madrid prevented the Gunners from going all the way in the Europa League but they are now being managed by someone who has surpassed that final hurdle.
Unai Emery has a history with this competition after three successive titles with Sevilla and is surely out to win it again with Arsenal.
Now, the draw has been made with the Gunners set to come up against Sporting Clube de Portugal, Qarabag FK and FC Vorskla Poltava.
Now, Unai Emery has spoken about his side’s opponents in the competition.
“First, it’s three teams and we’ll have the recipe for them. After this, we want to go far in this competition,” Emery said in his pre-match press conference.
“Each match is different and each match involves a lot of travel. For some, the travel is very long but it’s like that.
“The adaptation for these three teams needs to be positive and we need to face them with ambition and our interest to do well in the competition.”
Arsenal will be hoping to go all the way in the UEFA Europa League this season. They were two games away from doing it last season but now have a manager which has done it on three occasions. It’s a decent group stage draw and hopefully, the start of an exciting European adventure.
