Manchester United star Victor Lindelof has warned Gareth Southgate’s England that Sweden are a nation to be taken seriously ahead of their World Cup clash.
The two European countries will go head to head in the quarter-finals of the competition with the winner potentially facing either Russia or Croatia in the semi-finals.
Lindelof has performed admirably for Sweden so far, gaining plaudits from the media which could potentially mean Jose Mourinho making him a starter next season.
It was clear the defender needed some time to adjust to United last season but he did grow as the season went on and in he looks in fine form on the biggest international stage.
Whether it’s enough for Mourinho to change his mind on bringing in an experienced, top quality centre-back is yet to be seen but for now, Victor has warned England ahead of their clash.
Lindelof: “We are a nation to be taken seriously. It’s difficult to play against us because we defend very well and it’s hard to find spaces between the lines. We defend very well – with all 11 players on the pitch.” #mufc [Guardian]

Sweden’s defensive tactics are well known to anyone who’s been watching the World Cup so far and it will surely concern Gareth on how to break them down.
England haven’t looked shaky when being counter-attacked so far with their three man backline often providing adequate cover but the question is how to attack a well organised unit.
