Manchester United will need to pay north of £70m to acquire the services of Napoli central defender Kalidou Koulibally this summer, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for reinforcements at central defence this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld emerging as a main target.
But the Senegalese international has also caught the eye of Mourinho following an impressive season with Napoli, who finished with their highest points ever points total in Serie A.
And according to Italian media outlet TMZ (via M.E.N), Napoli have set an asking price at around £70m for any potential suitors over the next couple of months.
Such a figure, you sense, would be considered way too high by United for a position which is not a priority for them.
The signings of Fred and Diego Dalot have addressed the respective need for another midfielder and backup for Antonio Valencia next season – a good start to the window – but emphasis now has to be on adding a left-back capable of offering more than Ashley Young, alongside another midfielder to give Mourinho the same depth as Manchester City.
Ignoring those two positions and instead opting for another central defender and a physically imposing forward would be a grave mistake by Mourinho.
