Chelsea have joined both Liverpool and Manchester United in the race to sign Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij, as per a report from TalkSport.
The Dutch international is set to sign a new deal with the Italian side as his current contract is set to expire, but the expectation is that they’ll still let him leave in the summer and that the extension is mainly to protect his value.
As it stands, whilst he hasn’t officially put pen-to-paper on a new deal, he is still free to talk to other clubs and could still sign a pre-contract agreement.
However, it looks like if Chelsea do want to sign the player, they will have to pay a fee of around £20million, as that is expected to be the release clause in his new deal.
Liverpool and Manchester United are also interested in the 26-year-old so Chelsea won’t have a free run at him if they do decide to make an offer.
