Zlatan Ibrahimovic will look to start talks with Manchester United over a new one-year contract extension in the New Year.
He returned from a seven-month absence with injury two weeks ago in Man United’s 4-1 dismantling against Newcastle United, and has made an appearance from the substitutes bench in each of United’s games since.
He, technically, briefly left the club in the summer following serious knee ligament damage coinciding with the end of his one-year contract that he signed after arriving on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2016.
However, he quickly was offered a new deal and signed it shortly after the season began, in August.
Now, having missed seven months of football, he’s looking to extend his Old Trafford stay to three years, longer than most initially predicted the Swede would be at the club for.
The Sun report that Ibrahimovic had been set to see out this current season at the club before finishing his career in the United States in Major League Soccer.
But a burning desire to win the Premier League will keep him at United, with the Reds clear second favourites to Manchester City at this stage in the season.
Mourinho and Ibrahimovic have both promised to be transparent about their ideas of the player’s future at the club. The pair have a brilliant relationship, and Ibrahimovic knows he was well-supported during his injury.
