Marcus Rashford has missed the first England training session in Russia with an ankle problem ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
The 20-year-old picked up what manager Gareth Southgate described as a ‘slight knock’ on Monday, the day before the squad jetted off to the team training base in Repino.
England’s players and coaching staff landed in St Petersburg on Tuesday afternoon ahead of their first session on Wednesday as preparations fully commence.
Rashford’s injury is not thought to be serious with his absence simply a precaution and it seems like he’ll be in full contention to take part in Monday night’s opener against Tunisia in Volgograd.
He gave Southgate a selection headache in the final warm-up match against Costa Rica in Leeds with a stunning performance and goal to help the team to a comfortable 2-0 win.
It seems like the exciting forward will ultimately be battling it out with best friend and Manchester United team-mate Jesse Lingard for a place in the starting line-up, with Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling considered to be certain main-stayers.
After the Tunisia opener, England face Panama in Nizhny Novgorod and that’s followed by what could be a Group G decider against Belgium in Kaliningrad to kick off what is Rashford’s first World Cup campaign.
