Mourinho explains why he captained this Man Utd star vs Leicester

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho explained to fans why he decided to captain Paul Pogba for the match vs Leicester City.

The Red Devils took on the Foxes in the Premier League looking to grab three more points just before Christmas.

However, United sent their fans home without a gift, drawing with Leicester 2-2 after some late drama.

Pogba had started the match but was unable to help his side win despite an impressive attacking display.

The French star was ultimately let down by his teammates after captaining the side for the first time since his move from Juventus.

According to the Daily Star, Jose said: “The decision is that in the Champions League we made him captain a couple of times when Valencia was not playing and people like Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] and [Chris] Smalling were not playing.

“Today we felt that could be an extra motivation for him and that’s it. No special decision.

“Probably the fact that he’s a young guy and made in the club academy and will play many, many years in the club and has conditions to be a captain in the future. Just that.”

Manchester United fans always had a hunch that Jose Mourinho was going to captain Paul Pogba after signing him from the Italian giants for a then world record fee.

It was clear from the start that the Portuguese was going to build his side around Pogba, making him central to all his plans.

The star midfielder has shown his quality to fans after a rather quiet first season at Old Trafford, quickly getting due praise after his impressive start to the campaign.

Sitting alongside Nemanja Matic, Paul has benefitted from having a capable holding midfielder alongside him, allowing him to venture forward, adding more flair to the Red Devils attacks.

United’s engine room has often been a problem area in recent times, perhaps since Paul Scholes’ retirement.

The iconic Englishman was crucial to his side’s success and some supporters have compared the former Juventus man to him, claiming that the two have similar styles of playing the game.
