Inter Milan have rejected a bid worth €65m from Manchester United for central defender Milan Skriniar, according to reports from Italy.
Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for reinforcements at centre back this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly emerging as targets.
Skriniar has attracted the attention of several top clubs after starting every Serie A game for Inter in a season which saw them quality for the Champions League for just the second time since 2011.
And according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter have outright refused to entertain a €65m lodged by Man United to acquire his services, with Skriniar adamant on remaining at the San Siro next season.
United know all too well the difficulties of negotiating with Inter following a frustrating few months fruitlessly pursuing Ivan Perisic last summer. The difference here, however, is that the Inter defender – following an excellent breakthrough campaign – has no interest whatsoever in leaving for any club, whereas Perisic was at one point intent on moving.
Mourinho will have to turn to other targets, although supporters are rightly concerned at their manager spending time looking for a new centre back at the expense of finding reinforcements at left-back – a position in much greater need of revival.
