Premier League side Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino and could make a move for him this summer, according to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.
The 26-year-old defensive midfielder has made one appearance in the World Cup for Uruguay and looked assured in possession during his nation’s victory over Egypt.
Maurizio Sarri could be set to take over at Stamford Bridge and the manager is a keen admirer of Vecino, who was a key part of Inter’s side as they secured fourth spot in the league.
Vecino managed to get his name on the scoresheet three times last season but it is his defensive work which is what makes him stand out on the pitch.
Chelsea may need to act quickly as fellow Premier League sides Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on his situation.
The Blues don’t have the appeal of European football to offer Vecino which could tempt him to remain at the San Siro, but with the possibility of Sarri in charge, the London club will expect to challenge on all fronts next season.
