When Conor McGregor handed himself into a Brooklyn police station earlier this month, it seemed his career in the UFC might be over.
Indeed, a highly emotive interview with UFC president Dana White in the moments after McGregor’s moment of madness gave an impression the 29-year-old would not be welcomed back to the octagon any time soon.
Confronting fellow lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov at the Barclays Centre prior to UFC 223, the former two-weight champion threw a number of objects at a bus carrying fighters. Smashing a number of windows, injuries sustained by two of the fighters were deemed serious enough that they had to pull out of their contests that weekend.
As time drew on however, White seemed to cool his view of the incident, emphasising the need to allow the legal process to play out before the organisation moved to sanction McGregor.
However, perhaps recognising his financial importance to the company, McGregor has now posted a picture on his Instagram feed that could be interpreted as a reminder to White that his personal profile dwarfs the UFC.

The overlaying text reading “nobody is my boss” shows McGregor’s faith in himself and his abilities, and could signify a return to the UFC is further away than was originally thought.
It had been rumoured that the Dubliner was preparing to try and reclaim his lightweight belt from Khabib Nurmagomedov this year, but it seems as though fans will have to wait for the encounter if McGregor is to pursue this prickly relationship with White.
