Jamie Redknapp tells Jose Mourinho to sign this La Liga superstar

Jamie Redknapp has called on Jose Mourinho to secure the services of Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale in the summer in order to liven up his mundane attack for next season.

The boss has made it clear on several occasions that he doesn’t want to add another attacking player to his squad after acquiring Alexis Sanchez in January.

However, the uncertainty looming over the future of Anthony Martial, combined with the expected wholesale changes at the Bernabeu in the summer, leaves the door at least partly open for a potential Bale move to Old Trafford.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Redknapp, for at least the 346th time this season, ironically branded United as “boring” and called on Mourinho to splash the cash for Bale in the transfer window.

“They finished second and could win the FA Cup but let’s face it… this is one of the most boring United teams,” he wrote.

“If Jose Mourinho wants to change that he should go and buy Gareth Bale. He has won it all at Real Madrid and won’t be fazed by the Premier League.

“United won’t be the only ones after him. If Eden Hazard goes to Real Madrid, I’m sure Chelsea would be keen on a swap deal. After a season of limited game-time, Bale will be keen to prove he is still a world-class talent. What better way to do so than inspire a team to properly challenge City?”

This suggestion is a bit, well, Daily Mail, isn’t it? A former player adopting a simple, universal line on how United play and suggesting a player everyone has heard of is, put simply, bad journalism.

The claim that Bale could join United presupposes the notion that Martial has already packed his bags for Juventus, which many fans have already accepted, but this hysteria surrounding the Frenchman – a player supporters feel uniquely emotional about – is premature. And Mourinho certainly has bigger fish to fry in the transfer window.
