Manchester United and France legend Eric Cantona will play at Old Trafford for the first time since 2001 as part of the Soccer Aid charity football match for Unicef in June.
The biennial event, co-founded by singer Robbie Williams and entertainer Jonathan Wilkes, has raised over £24m since its launch in 2016 and features the likes of former football stars to high-profile celebrities.
This year’s edition will see Robbie Williams’ England XI against Usain Bolt’s World XI, with Cantona joining the Jamaican sprinter’s side alongside Patrick Kluivert, Clarence Seedorf, Robert Pires and Jaap Stam.
After it was announced that Cantona would be taking part, the iconic Frenchman said: “There is no place like home. Knowing I am coming back to Old Trafford is a special feeling. I am coming back to make the June 10 match the best ever and I want you to join me. Let’s make history together at Old Trafford again one last time.”
Other former United players starring at the event include England Women’s head coach Phil Neville and Edwin van der Sar, and the former is just one of the English names Cantona will be facing; David Seaman, Jamie Redknapp, Olly Murs and Mark Wright are other notable players.
