Michael Carrick has promised Manchester United fans that more success will come in the next few years as he calls a day on his playing career.
The Englishman is moving to the coaching side of things in football, joining Jose Mourinho’s first-team coaching staff at Man United after playing his final game at Old Trafford for the Reds in a 1-0 victory over Watford.
Carrick spoke to the fans after the win, thanking them for all their support over his 12-year career at the club, where he has lifted every trophy possible.
The club captain will become an important figure in the coaching staff, and thanked the manager for the chance to become that.
“My role changes this week, I need to thank Jose an awful lot,” the midfielder said.
“I look forward to working with him. He’s one of the very best.”
With an FA Cup Final at Wembley still to come in less than a week’s time, Carrick says success is waiting to happen at United.
“We’re going to have some success in the near future I’m certain of that,” he assured supporters.
Carrick has had a sensational career, filled with trophies, incredible moments and success. He has been a vital part to the great United sides that have been formed around him, including one of the greatest; the 2008 Champions League-Premier League double-winning side.
