Mainz defender Leon Balogun is close to securing a move to Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion, according to ESPN FC.
Brighton will sign the Nigerian international on a free transfer, as he is out of contract with Mainz this summer.
Albion boss Chris Hughton is preparing his squad for their second season in the top flight and has identified the 29-year-old defender as a key addition, after seeing Uwe Hunemeier leave the club last week.
Balogun is a versatile defender and can play anywhere across the back four, making him an attractive proposition to Hughton who desperately needs defensive cover.
The Mainz man helped his side steer clear from relegation from the Bundesliga this season, making 15 appearances for the German side, as well as helping Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup finals.

With Balogun expected to travel to Russia to represent his country, Brighton will be keen to get a deal signed and sealed before he gets on the plane.
