Chief football writer for the Independent Miguel Delaney has confirmed that Manchester United have “close to zero interest in Gareth Bale” ahead of the summer transfer window.
The club’s hierarchy entertained the prospect of bringing Bale to Old Trafford last summer, with Jose Mourinho publicly registering his interest in the Welshman.
No transfer went through, but reports from Spain have continually intimated during another difficult campaign for Bale that Man United would look to take advantage of a wider overhaul at the Bernabeu in the summer.
However, according to Delaney, Bale is no longer ‘intransferable’ and will be subject to a bid from Inter Milan in the summer, but United have next to no interest in expending efforts on signing him over the transfer window.
Mourinho has reiterated since the January window, during which he brought in Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal at the expense of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, that he is happy with the attacking options at his disposal and will instead dedicate his efforts towards reinforcing midfield and full-back.
There has been talk of Mourinho entertaining the prospect of dispensing with Anthony Martial, who was reported as wanting to leave earlier this week, in order to land Bale, but these claims of the Frenchman wanting out have not been backed up by any other media outlet and it is roundly believed that the 22-year-old – a fan favourite – still sees United as his first choice, while Bale feels more like a player United should have signed in 2013 rather than now.
