Arsenal are reportedly set to make another key backroom appointment with a new director of football set to come in (via The Mirror).
Arsenal Football Club has experienced a tremendous amount of change behind the scenes in the last year.
Chief executive Ivan Gazidis has taken a far more hands-on role in the running of the club and that has been evidenced with recent appointments.
Head of recruitment Sven Mislintat and head of football relations Raul Sanllehi form a crucial core team with Gazidis and new head coach Unai Emery.
Reports suggest that Arsenal are set to make another appointment to the hierarchy with Marcel Lucassen set to be named as the club’s new director of football.
Lucassen is the current technical director of Dubai side Al-Nasr FC but served as the German national team’s technical expert between 2007 and 2015.
The reports come from a Dutch publication where it is claimed, Lucassen will implement a structure which will aid the development of Arsenal’s coaches and players and youth level when he is appointed on 1 August.
“What I’m going to do at #AFC is to further develop the football philosophy, as I did earlier with Al Nasr and the German Football Association,” Lucassen told Di Limburger.
“And it was time to start working closer to home so that I could have my family in Blitterswijck.”
This move has not yet been made official by the club but if these reports are to be believed, it is all but done. Not much is known about Marcel Lucassen but his track record is certainly impressive. The youth development in the German national team is the envy of the world and if Arsenal can take on some of these techniques and structures then that could be a very good thing for the club.
