After Olivier Giroud’s move from Arsenal to Stamford Bridge, the striker has revealed that he had to join “perfect” Chelsea, according to the Mirror.
Giroud fell well down the pecking order at the North London club and needed a new challenge, something which he has been given to in thanks to a move to the Premier League champions.
The Frenchman had started just one Premier League game for the Gunners prior to his move and Arsenal had brought in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to leadfrog ahead of him in the pecking order.
The 31-year-old performed well on his full debut against West Brom, providing an assist for Eden Hazard as Chelsea returned to winning ways with a stylish 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.
Giroud also joins a club who are still in the Champions League, unlike his former club Arsenal, who are currently in the Europa League which might have had a part to play in the move.
Giroud spoke about the need to find regular gametime in a recent interview.
It’s been a while since I played regularly and that’s why I needed to move. I needed a new challenge and Chelsea was the perfect club for me. It’s the Premier League, a club which has won more titles in the past ten years than any other. It’s a massive club and I am very proud to be here and to carry on my career in the Premier League.
He continued and went onto add.
I had five amazing years there, but now it’s a new chapter of my career and I am focused 100 per cent on the Blues to reach our targets. I’m very happy to be here.
